Indians For Guns

HI ,
Recently saw a DBBL SxS BSA in gun shop, some pitting in both barrels at the proximal/ breach end, after opening forehand grip and shaking the gun holding the barrel doesn't feel shaky or produce any funny sound. As I don't have much knowledge about 12 bore gun, request IFG members for guidance. Is it worth Rs 80K. The asking price of the dealer. Another one O and U of National (Indian), new Rs 40K.
I already have an old SBBL on my license and want to dispose it. Now I want to keep a DBBL or Repeater. Since the repeater PA seems to be beyond my budget i will settle for a good double barrel. All three are mentioned in the License.

I would not look at any Indian made guns,if I can.Sorry,but that's my opinion.

On your query about buying a used shotgun,go through it and it will save you a lot of grief.

If you could post a few clear pics of the gun, it will help to assess how bad the pitting is and if it could be removed.

The pitting in the barrel is good in a way, it shows that it has not been tampered with. usually they are well polished and buffed to show that they are in good condition, if the pitting is not too bad negotiate for around 40 - 50k and go for it - that also is too high but .....

I had gone through that 'topics' and tried whatever I could remember. But on ground when the gun is in hand tend to forget what all to be seen. Similarly clicking photograph didn't cross my mind then.

Stick with 60 K now -- could have gone lower -- some one paid 80K for german shotty just for reference - it was in a very decent shape keep on looking for decent sxs

I sent someone to renegotiate the price and take some photos. But photo quality is very bad.

For BSA S/S ...... I think 60 K is OK if condition is normal. Certainly not more than 70 in any case.

I bought a DBBL BSA sxs in good condition in Delhi in November 2010. I paid 50K+ service tax for that. t is in good condition. I fully agree with Vikram, don't even look at Indian made shotgun. I had a o/u Mehar Singh & sons which gave me lot of trouble, had to repair it many times. You try to bring the price down.

Thanks for the response, the dealer is not ready even at 60. He said he bought the guns from Delhi and Merrut. Now I wonder how about the old external hammer DBBL. I think they may be cheaper.
Indian guns too fire But I am finding it difficult follow their pace of rusting

Get the gun inspected from some expert and buy it if expert okays it. I have been using Jeffery & Jeffery DBBL SxS shotgun ( belongs to a friend of mine) with external Hammers. My experience is that hammerless gun is better than the one with external hammers. The experience is that of Himalayan jungles.

I have also heard of incidences where ext. hammer shotgun going off automatically while being carried in the woods. Reason being some branch/ twigs getting caught with the external hammer thus causing accidental fire.
But they look beautiful. Looks like each of them have been crafted at leisure.

I am talking about hill jungles of Garhwal and Kumaon where terrain is uneven. One has to go up and down the hills.
Then there are overhanging branches and twigs. Using an external hammers shotgun takes a lot of alertness. You have to keep lowering the hammer whenever you decide not to take the shot.
I started shooting with muzzle loaders which are necessarily with external hammers. I am talking about the time when shooting in the country was allowed. Over a period of 32 years it is my personal experience that hammerless guns are better than the external hammers.

Just being pedantic but hammerless shotguns do have hammers.Except for those that have strikers.Thanks for the clarification.I have never shot a muzzle loader.

On the lighter side. The dealer is still adamant with his quoted price like a monkey holding a unpeeled coconut.
And my problem is that I want any imported DBBL which has lesser affinity for rust and my license is not 'All India'.
Lest I may have taken a trip to Merrut for a wider choice at lesser price.
