Check and make sure that the firing pin is okay and try a new shell

Hi j,if the gun misfires, wait for sometime, while pointing the gun in a safe direction, sometimes it hang fires,i wont like to be the person who is in the process of opening the gun and it fires, normally keep it pointed in a safe direction for a cpl of seconds, then very carefully break open the gun and replace the cartridge AND TRY AGAIN,when you take out the misfired cartridge check the firing cap to see if the firing pin has done its job properly on the cap.
PS; USE FRESH CARTRIDGES INSTEAD OF OLD ONES

Could also be a worn out/ broken leaf spring (known locally as kamani) in the action.

Due to moisture,or some other reason the cartridge misfires. To reuse the cartridge as it is, dry it in the hot sun or put it on a small heap of sand for an hour and fire it . It will go bang. Some times, after a misfire, please wait for even upto two minutes. In my experience, i have seen a cartridge explode even after a minute ( the timing cannot be accurate)but never open the breech all of a sudden.
