Searching for a shotgun (Advice needed)

Post by ankur1011111 » Thu Mar 24, 2011 4:49 pm

Hello Shooters,
I have got licence for SBBL/DBBL
I was in mood to buy a 12 bore pump action. But a gunsmith told me that repeater technology is not upto mark, however he told me that the double barrel could shoot even more cartridges than pump action.

Also I need approx price for repeater gun indian as well as imported one.

Your advice is needed.

i think your gunsmith is looking to sell you something he has instead of something you want, dont take his advice as it is very tainted...

If your wallet allows, you may go for one. Otherwise the double barrel shotgun is the next best option in Indian market conditions.
But a gunsmith told me that repeater technology is not upto mark
He is incorrect if he means that pump action technology is not up to the mark all over the world. He may be partly correct if he means pump action technology is not up to the mark in Indian Ordnance Factory made pump action shotguns. Some users had reported of cartridge cycling issues in IOF made pump action shot guns with IOF made shotgun cartridges. Some users reported that foreign made shotgun cartridges cycle without any problem.
however he told me that the double barrel could shoot even more cartridges than pump action.
If he takes into account cartridge cycling issues in Indian scenario, he may be partly correct else it is not correct.
Also I need approx price for repeater gun indian as well as imported one.
Since import of firearms has been put on restricted list of EXIM policy for many decades, there is no yardstick about the price of "imported" or "foreign made" firearms in India. It is a sellers market. Only Indian Ordnance Factories had sold a few pump action shotguns to civilians for a while. Their sale was also stopped by Ministry of Home Affairs(probably because bureaucrats in Ministry of Home Affairs could not trust citizens with "very deadly" firearms). Therefore the price of these few IOF made shotguns that were sold in the market has also escalated.

I am also doubtful that if it is not permit-able to have the same type of guns endorsed on your licence . my gunvendor has two or three pretty good guns with him but he said that now it is banned.

in my opinion a over under shot gun with ejectors and extractors is a good buy and more easy to handle and operate for self defense as well as trap or skeet shooting hobby too

I am in haridwar and nearby area from where i can purchase gun from meerut dehradun or roorkee easily, so how much budget should i expect to buy indian or imported one. One of gun smith asked 125000 for indian one and 2.5L for imported one. will this be a right investment.

Pump action shotgun is certainly "permit-able". It is not "banned" by any stretch of imagination. In the eyes of Arms Act 1959/Arms Rules 1962 pump action shotgun with barrel length 20" or more is just a Non Prohibited Bore, Smooth Barreled Shotgun, commonly endorsed as NPB SBBL gun on licenses.

Sir i have a shaktiman SBBl. What is the procedure of changing my weapon. Would a bolt action .12 bore fall in the same category as a SBBl?

hi ankur ,
if you want then i know some one who has a belgium made sbbl asking 17000/- and ( stock and blueing not in original condition ) and another webley scott sbbl asking price 25000/- but all i original condition.
my advice according to indian market dont go for pump action shotgun as iof shotgun is a complete failure and the cycling of the paper iof catridges is an issue and i suppose you wont get plastic catridges all time . Moreover imported pump action will be no more than 25 years old and would cost more due uneccessary inflation of weapons price in india . The best i would suggests Is SxS which plently available in india both indian and imported
1. IOF - 30000?-
2. Girilal Munger - 25000-35000 much better than iof
3. modern O/U -35000 good looking and sturdy
4 . Imported is available now depends on the dealer/individual and condition of weapon , price Max 150000/
this is what i think , let others suggets also .
may be i can find you SxS imported one if you want .

Sir this only solves half of my query. What is the procedure to change the weapon from break type to bolt action? My licence was originally Tamil nadu later converted to all india less jammu and kashmir?

What is the procedure to change the weapon from break type to bolt action?
Since bolt action/pump action fall in same category i.e. SBBL, no special procedure, as usual you have to give 45 day notice period to sell your gun, once you get permission, you sell it and buy another following the rules.
