My first Shotgun

Post by Sakobav » Fri Jan 26, 2007 7:08 am

Well thanks to board members here especially Grumpy who found it and Mehul, Vikram, Sharief, others.. who encouraged and guided.. I bought a new Beretta 686 White Onyx Pro 3 inch 12 gauge o/u from Cabela on sale in Minnesota..at a significant discount compared to NYC prices.

It was Located by Grumpy and did he keep me focussed / advised on my requirements..kept up with my novice questions and frusturations..imagine Beretta Gallery here was out of shotguns..20 gauge seems to be preferred choice. Since this will be my only shotty for a while hence the specs were recommended by Guru..always wanted an o/u

Looked up shooting range, called every gun shop in NYC area including CDNN..nothing worked. Found two used guns even mailed the check once and had another one written, owners had a change of heart...Watch this space for pictures will pick it up tomorrow from FFL dealer

Cheers

Welcome to the Beretta club!

Clarify, getting the gun from Minnesota, don't you live in NYC, or have you moved to the land of 10,000 lakes.

Well post pictures and enjoy the Gun!!!

Have fun,

Satpal

Thanks guys..no gun club its a tundra here around NYC..it might well have been any make, not many choices here you buy what you find..as I said price was right and sale was on...was lucky found the last piece in Minnesota, had it shipped here..

This process started in Feb last year after license application and then have been looking for Shotgun since August..Mehul introduced me to Grumpy, who speced it but its amazing how this board has made this possible since I have yet to meet any of the fellas..

Congratulations! Don't forget to buy a couple hundred shells for it too!

That's strange, seems like you are in India, the way you describe NYC.

S Meltzer & Sons in Garfield, NJ is a discount Beretta dealer. My friends bought quite a few berettas from him. Had I known of your situation, I could have referred you to him. He is 12 miles from NYC.

Oh well, all's well that ends well!!

Congrats Navdeep, the beretta is a nice gun. I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot. Don't buy too many chokes or fiber optic sights or other stuff for it yet. Get used to it first, learn how it shoots and points for you. You can always add stuff for it later.

Congratulations and enjoy the gun. Tell us how you're shooting with it too.

Thanks a lot guys for the encouragement and guidance

Mehul-- Thats right no excuse next time..its been a very long process more than 1 year ..I got stuck so will be picking it up tomorrow..any advise on recoil pad ..it comes with one?

Sharief it has 5 chokes all I need is a gun slip and maybe some basic lesson

Satpal-- I did look up most of the stores and maybe this one not sure..anyway but NJ and NY have reciprocatory sales tax of 8.5%...which is quite a chunk of money.

Inder-- I had a pistol for you to fire this time itself..

Enjoy your Berreta O/U. They are very fine guns indeed. I have been shooting sporting clays, skeet and trap with Beretta Silver Pigeon for over a decade now. I am convinced they are perhaps the best guns, perhaps better than any O/U manufactured and that includes Parrazi, Holland & Hooland and other London Gun Makers. We are not discussing engraveing or customisation here, but pure performance.

Sheikh Ahmad shot with a Perrazi for many years. But in 2002 he changed to Berreta, the result - Gold Medal in Double Trap at Athens 2004 olympics.

And our favourie cartridge for Trap & Sporting clays is RC 4 Championship, no. 7 1/2, 24 grams load, from Italy.

Managed to get a load of 1000 cartridges in India as well at an unreasonable price of Rs. 60 each, but these cartridges are simply great so no regrets.

Ngrewal,

Congratulations.I hope you have fun with your new toy.Seem's that you have all that you need to get a gold at the Olympics

You know,I think I have solved the mystery of why Indians will never win a Gold in trap in the Olmpics. They all shoot Perazzi's  Ah well,I think I will sell my matched pair of London clunkers(all show and no go) and get a Beretta O/U.The best shotgun in the world.Wonder how the Brits held onto their empire armed as they were with useless guns.I am not saying that ordinary soldiers of the Raj carried Purdeys. However,if those who were considered to make the best guns in the empire, made such rubbish, you can well imagine what the ordinary soldier carried.Remeber reading somewher about a fellow who took a Greener made gun to Africa and fired close to 1,00,000 cartrdiges without the gun needing any repair(Grumpy please correct me on this,if I am wrong).Berettas would top this any day,I am sure

Oh Shahid, you have shot your decade old Beretta O/U into a (insert fav insect here) nest. ;) I was releived that Satpal didn't say what you said so be prepared to take some abuse for even mentioning Beretta vs English (higher end) shottys in the same sentence. Or were you just trolling ? This is going to be ugly all over again, however, I hope not.
