Re: My Westley Richards DBBL SxS Single Trigger Gun
The Proof marks are Birmingham 1904-1925 and are sharp and crisp - a good sign.
The gun generally seems to be in good order but there is rust on the lock plates and components and areas of the action which should be carefully removed.
The crispness of the chequering does not correspond with the wear to the engraving - which particularly bad on the bottom plate. It appears that the action was, at some time, covered in rust which has been rubbed down - hence the wear to the engraving. The barrels appear to retain the original blue which is faded but in good order for it`s age . The barrels could certainly do with a light coat of oil which, in addition to helping protect from rust will darken the barrel finish and make them shine somewhat. I can`t comment on the internal condition of the barrels as I can`t see down them and I can`t measure the wall thickness but from what I can see of the gun it looks to be in good mechanical order. From what I can see of the bearing surfaces they look to be in good order. There is no photograph of the stock but from what I can see of it where it joins the action it looks like it might have been varnished at some time .... not good if it has but a couple more photographs of the stock and the whole gun would help to assess the general condition. It`s strange how the action and fore-end metalwork have sustained rust pitting and `wear` that is not reflected by the condition of the fore-end wood but the fore-end wood does not appear to have been replaced.
Westley Richards single trigger mechanism was patented in 1895. Their droplock design was patented in 1897.
So .... a Westley Richards single trigger, droplock, ejector 12-Bore. Not exactly a common gun and it would be quite collectible except for the condition of the metalwork with the extreme `wear`. A shame but considered at as a working gun it has plenty of appeal. If looked after it will be usable for a very long time.

Re: My Westley Richards DBBL SxS Single Trigger Gun
Where do you get 1748 from ?
The only serial number that I can see is C1678 on the barrel flats.
Westley Richards serial numbers could be prefixed 0, B, C, G, or T.
C1678 would suggest a date of 1927-28 according to online sources .... which is two years after the latest possible date for the proof stamps. Could be possible if the gun was numbered after proof but I believe that the gun is older. You`ld have to contact Westley Richards to find out the actual dates of commission/sale along with any other details they hold. W-R charge £60 ( c. IR6000 ) for this service.

Re: My Westley Richards DBBL SxS Single Trigger Gun
Westley Richards produced guns with the serial numbers prefixed 0, B, C, D, G and T as I said above. Whether the individual prefixes designated an actual `series` is questionable.
The serial number will be found on the barrel flats, often on the table of the action, usually on the fore-end iron and sometimes on the trigger strap. Sometimes all of these locations.
If the gun has different serial numbers in different locations it would suggest that it is a `bitza`.

You object do you ?
I certainly object to your aggressive ignorance.
Proof ?

Note that Simon Clode makes no mention of the term `series` when listing the serial numbers and prefixes.

The `K` prefix was applied to double guns and rifles between 1887-1919. The `T` prefix was applied to double guns and rifles
( "mainly export" ) between 1902-1962.

Re: My Westley Richards DBBL SxS Single Trigger Gun
You HAVE got an answer - look at the list I posted !!!!
You`re not reading what I post.
What`s the point of you making pointless statements and asking questions when you don`t read my responses ?
Guns with `C` prefixes were built between 1913 and 1952. LOOK AT THE LIST !!!!!
Stop `quoting` everything I post - it`s totally unnecessary, very tedious for others to view and an absolute waste of space.
