Re: 16 bore guns
Friends,
This is a lovely 16Bore SXS that Grumpy, ever the kind man,has presented me.
Specs:
Carter, Lincolns Inn Gun Works, Birmingham.
Dipped plate sidelock 16-Bore.
Built c. 1900.
28" Barrels.
6 lb 1 oz
Chambers lengthened to 2 3/4" inches when the barrels were sleeved - and the gun reproved to metric 3 1/4 tonne spec.
I think she has another 100 years of life in her.
Best-
Vikram

What's the latest on your dogs?
Shooter, Vikram et al:
Greetings. I haven't been here for awhile as everything from rotator cuff surgery (no fun!) to an extended business trip to the UK ( I feel gulty that I didn't contact Shooter) to a NEW dog (German Wirehaired Pointer, #2. young and not too smart, but he tries hard) sort of interrupted my habit patterns.
I am at fault, as this is a very interesting board, populated by (mostly) fine fellows. Good jokes on the joke board, too!
I will try to be here more often. Best wishes to all here.. OK. Except for..well, never mind.
Nice gun, vikram!!

Re: 16 bore guns
(I missed the additions to this thread.)
I do not think that Grumpy's logic can be faulted. The original load/bore combinations were developed and standardized for good, solid reasons. The proper answer was to step up in bore for different situations, not try to cobble together a solution based on a bore best suited for different hunting situations.
Vikram, that beauty is simply gorgeous! What pleasure you must derive from shouldering it and pulling a trigger, even just once. Thanks for sharing. I confess, I'm even beyond being envious. It's more like looking at something in a museum, where one just appreciates the personally unobtainable in awe.
Steve, good to see you back. Hope that shoulder is recovering nicely.

Re: 16 bore guns
Glad that Grumpy is back.
Nothing like a 16ga on a scaled action for upland hunting. May not be the best choice in the Indian scenario as hunting is not allowed and cost of ammo (if at all available) will make it very a expensive option for target shooting.
My 16ga Parker GH on a 0 frame. This gun was made around 1899.

Re: 16 bore guns
Steve,
Sorry to hear about the shoulder problem. Hope it mends well and soon.
Gentlemen,
Thank you all for your good words.
Herb,
Your Parker looks very nice. One question. Is the stock original but refinished or is it restocked? Thanks.
Best-
Vikram

Vikram - Stock is original including the butt plate. The stock has matching serial# under the trigger guard extension.
Beautiful guns Vikram & Steve.
