Can a repeater shotgun be Licensed to a civilian? The IOF pump action shotgun though in SBBL category is only licensed to a special category of people including guards etc. I recently fired a multi shot SBBL at a shooting range and didnt really enjoy the experience.

Well, not entirely accurate. Multi-shot can refer to quite a few variants, but only if the gun in question is a "SEMI-AUTO", would it be classified as a PB and require a special PB license issued from the MHA. Earlier even semi-auto shotguns were entered on simple SBBL shotgun licenses, not so any more...

Your regular pump-action shotguns and this particular bolt-action shotgun would be entered on a regular NPB SBBL gun license so long as the barrel length is a minimum of 20 inches. Shotguns with barrels shorter than 20" require a PB license.

HTH

Abhijeet,

Why cant a civilian then buy a IOF pump action SBBL if it is a simple NPB bore ? Why is this firearm restricted only for a special category of people?

NO!

A shotgun is entered as a SBBL / DBBL Gun and a rifle is entered as a SBBL / DBBL Rifle.

At ease!

Not sure, IIRC penpusher had posted something about the IOFB being required to take permission from the MHA before bringing any new gun to market for civilians.... I would imagine that the permission from the MHA has not been forthcoming...

Hello,

Sorry guys I was hoping to be in Chennai by now but my flight has been cancelled twice and I have postponed my trip for a week.

I hope this isnt OT but talking about shotguns reminds me of the full auto shotgun AK lookalike used by Stallone in one of his 'kill em all' movies. could never place the gun or its manufacturer. Is it for real?

ANother issue in our planned PIL.

A lot of shooters prefer an auto loading shotgun for skeet or trap. Our own the late H H Dr. Karani Singh the Maharaja of Bikaner used to use an auto for competition shooting.

If an Indian shooter wishes to use an auto loader for practise or competition shooting, he must be allowed to do so. A shooter must be free to select an O/U, Pump action or Auto loader or for that matter even a bolt action shotgun.

Yes, that semi-auto shotgun is really available and is known as the Saiga 12 ( 20 or 410 ) and is a developement of the Saiga M4 rifle. Go to :
