Mossberg Chokes

Post by sudhaiob » Sat Jul 28, 2012 6:41 pm

I have a Mossberg 500 ATP 12 bore pump. Recently I received some Mossberg Accu Chokes, I am unable to fit them to the shotgun as, apparently the bore and the choke are of the same diameter. Should I thread the barrel to fit the choke, which I donot want to do. Is there any other choke for this model which you can just insert and pull.
Thanks and regards

About the only thing I can suggest is to try and locate a "poly choke", they attach on the outside of the barrel and allow you to adjust the choke restriction.

They are threaded, so you can either have your barrel threaded on the outside or it is possible to machine the inside of the choke and have it brazed or silver soldered to your barrel.

In order to install choke tubes the barrel has to be threaded for the particular model of choke tube, requiring special tooling. Something that you can just "insert and pull" would go sailing with the first shot. Mark has pretty much outlined your options; but be aware that unskilled installation of the Polychoke can drastically change point of impact, requiring bending of the barrel. Do you really need to be able to change chokes?

Thanks two rivers and mark. I may have to move the items to the for sale section!!!. I remember vaguely having seen an ad for Mossberg plugin choke. Any way I think I have to bear with a cylinder barrel for now
