Bollywood item girl Rakhi Sawant, no stranger to controversy, now finds herself in the midst of another imbroglio. Except, this time it isn't about a fight on a reality show but a police investigation concerning an 8 mm caliber gun, which two apprehended criminals from Uttar Pradesh claim is hers.

The matter came to the fore after Keshav Pandey and Chandrakant Mishra were arrested by the Belha police in Pratapgarh district in northern UP on charges of looting local businessman Ramdev Gupta at gunpoint.

Police recovered three desi kattas and an Italian 8 mm caliber pistol from the duo. During interrogation, the suspects revealed that the pistol belonged to Sawant and said they had stolen it from her when they were in Mumbai.

Pratapgarh police said that Pandey and Mishra were wanted in more than 10 cases of extortion and robbery. "We were shocked when we recovered such arms and ammunition from them," said an official.

Mishra drives a taxi in Mumbai for eight months of the year and is believed to be involved in criminal activities in UP with his associate Pandey for the remaining four.

Sawant, on her part, has vehemently denied the charges. Speaking to MiD DAY, Sawant said, "I have never had a weapon or even applied for one despite receiving threats. If someone takes my name, it's not my fault. I can take care of myself as I am a gun myself. I am ready for any investigation and will cooperate with the police."

The UP police have written a letter to Mumbai Police Commissioner D Sivanandhan to carry out parallel investigations and ascertain whether the allegations levelled by the duo are true.

Superintendent of Police Lalji Shukla from Pratapgarh confirmed the report of the accusation and said, "We have asked the Mumbai police to investigate the claims made by the accused. A special team will go to Mumbai this week for further investigation and question Rakhi Sawant with the Mumbai police's help."
I am just wondering, given the difficulty and cost involved getting a "licensed" gun, she may have decided to go for "unlicensed" gun, which ultimately got stolen by these criminals.

I would really refrain from wondering aloud on these lines,GBM  ,for we know not what's the truth is until the police come out with their version. Also, getting a licensed gun in her case may not be as difficult as it is for the hoi polloi.

What is this mystery 8mm Italian pistol they mention? Don't recall any current 8mm pistol cartridges... unless they are referring to the usual .32 S&W Long (revolver) cartridge as an 8mm? :?

The blank pistol replicas that are usually seen in movies these days earlier came in 8mm cal. to prevent foolish people to shoot live ammo in it with fetal resuls. Of late they make them in 9mm. This one could easily have been one of them. Quite a few Jewelers' guards and individuals keep such non fire arms for protection and fun. This could have been one of those. Besides, our police is almost as ignorant as the movie audience at seeing the difference when it comes to fire arms as is often read in News

From what I hear of his reputation, he might want to conduct Rakhi Sawant's investigative interview himself

ROTFL inagine how the investigation would take place. Wont be surprised if govt bans blanks like vikram mentioned.
People in our country are surprised for the most unwanted issues!. Police in my city(majority) drive on the wrong side, jump signals, dont wear helmets and drive irresponsibly(and they dont get shocked doing stuff like this).

Hi Guys,
> There sems to be a mis-quote - The UP Goons did not steal the gun from Rakhi Sawant, it was from the house belonging to Rakhi Gulzar, that they stole the weapon.
> Secondly the gun was not real - It was a 'Fake' Italian make that the director bought for shooting a scene in his film. And after the shoot gifted it to Rakhi Gulzar.
> See this report in the Times of India - Mumbai edition dt.27/5/2010.
Cheers
