On behalf of IFG, I extend our full support to Abhinav Bindra the shooter and a national hero in this critical time.

we wish things work out for him and he gets to represent the nation again and make us proud.

We hope he gets to practice the way he wants with any interference from the so called authorities.

The authorities want their pound of flesh. Unfortunately Abhinav is screwed. Not much that can be done about it. He has my sympathy and support, but he is screwed from the looks of it.

well i feel for Abhinav Bindra, as he has been let down by the NRAI, as the NRAI has the power to make a difference but lack to do so. Also the NRAI does not pay for the equipment or for the PROFESSIONAL COACHES. Nor will it pay for the flights form Germany.

As far as i am concerned it is well done Abhinav Bindra for standing on his principals, He is a champion not because of the NRAI but because of what he did and the scarfice he made.

i don't know whether very many people agree with me or not on this but i feel it is also wrong on bindra's part on not attending camps. i personally feel that at the level that he has reached if he expects professionalism from others he needs to be professional himself in his approach towards the game.
it is a fact that he needs time to practice but it does not mean that he can not take out time for the national trials.
if there is a set criteria for the selection of shooters then why should anyone be given preferential treatment.. did col. rathore after his Olympic medal ask for an exemption from the trials??
no doubt bindra's achievement is no easy feat and he has endured alot of hardships to get there but that does not entitle him to any preferential treatment in his being selected in the team. this is a precision sport and trials are conducted to see who is in top form at that time.
i am not implying that all is well within the selection process but as long as it is a set criteria for selection it cannot be ignored.

I agree with vishnu.............attending a camp, and getting selected again, I dont think NRAI is letting him down in any ways............I am myself a shooter......on contrary........I think olympic medal is the highest and the final for any sports person, if he give trials, it will be lot of mental pressure..........he should quit grace fully.....and should help others to reach to his level...........

If i ever reach to this level......i will resign grace fully, and will help those who like to reach to top....and help the sports ministry to formulate such policies which will help all sports to grow further....

guys this thread is not about discussing about who was right or wrong.
For whatever reason, its not a pleasent situation he is going through.

At this point he needs our support not out criticism no matter how constructie it is. we can start another thread discussing if it was fair what happened to him.

do we know that he came for the trials for the set date and then comes to know that the trials got postponed!! without mention of new dates or confirming this to him before he returned for the trials, personally i do not know how much truth this holds but thats what he said in the interview aired on the channels.

I just feel that we really need to set up some strong structure with all concerned bodies in this sport or any sport other than cricket.
If all these existing structure were so good not needed to be overhauled why did Bindra the only person to bag the gold in a century ,with personal effort? thats the question i would love to hear from the chaps praising the existing system.

well we are too with mr bindra and that too wholeheartedly...........the question is, if he being given chance to go further without trials.......then i think, he is the only shooter......rest practising, are just wasting there time, money, energy......if u know in bijing olympics, Mr Rathor went the same way Mr bindra is asking........and what happened........the deserving candidate was refused, and Mr rathor cam back without anything in hand............rather scored his poorest performance.......the the whole blame game was given to the gun.............

be a sport.....system need change agreed.......but law is same for all, weather Mr bindra, or a normal shooter / sports person........

we all r with Mr bindra always.........and no doubt he made us (indians) proud....GOD BLESS HIM..... but brother rules r rules......

Quite a lot contradictory opinions.

Though the fact remains, that India has lost one opportunity to bring in the MEDAL. For, NRAI, i don't see why things couldn't have worked out between them and Mr. Bindra. I too don't agree with the preferential treatment but even if Mr. Bindra wants to practice with NRAI... can someone enlighten me, what ranges would they offer him to practice on... are their coaches designated for this kind of practice.... are necessary facilities being provided to ensure that we retain the pride that Mr. Bindra had earned for his & our country?

I for sure believe their is a lot to the scene that we can actually hear or see?

hi ravi, good point.......now for common wealth GOI has spend more than 250 cr at the SAI tuglakabad shooting range........so question abt the quality of the range, complete's........now for the coaches....NRAI always enroll foreign coach, so that up comming national team has no problem technically, and also general repairs are carried out nicely.........2nd, for training, they have a selection critria, for which trials are conducted, after National games.....after trials the best scorer is taken out for training which means free ammo, free repairs, free training camp at PUNE and before match also if they had to go abroad.......now if u in individual feels u need to go out for 6 months, for training, then i think, NRAI as a sports body, had its own restrictions, and budget, beyond which, it cannot go...........

I would just like to draw the attention of our esteemed members on IFG, please look at the NRAI in TOTALITY, for example just like one of our parents, our parents have also plus and minus points, but eventually we look at them as a whole. NRAI, like any other organisation has its plus points and negative points. No parent likes their child to point out their mistakes, But good parents do, after some time, they do accept and try to change. But then as we all know some dont. The NRAI too has been evolving, and evolving for the better.
By pointing out the good points in the system, does not mean that we agree with the entire system. But certainly as shooter, who has had very good experiences with the NRAI, I or any member of the shooting fraternity, may not agree with all your criticism. Particularly, if you have not been part of it as most of us have for well over two decades.
Friends, please, I only request you to have an open mind and listen to both sides of the argument.
