The reason is simple, as AK has become so popular and copied due to it's reliability, effectiveness and simplicity of manufacture, it is being manufactured all around the world, legally as well as illegally(a cheap version can be created by anyone having a lathe machine, machine press/stamping press.) Hence very few are ordering directly from OEM.

Dont worry some rich Oligarch will buy it..maybe India should send them an order to replace the INSAS Peachooter

I doubt if they will really stop producing their weapons. Though off late demand has been drying up.
The Chinese have a decent copy, as do the Romanians.
The Checx just have a better weapon.

Smirnof is very common family name in Russia, and vodka is the same everywhere.

In Russia number of new rifles and guns been developed in recent years, but they not going into production for different reasons. Export is monopolized by government. For Army it is not a first priority to replace small arms and they quite happy with AKs and SVDs.

I doubt if it would go bust long term..

AK 47. Probably the best assault rifle ever produced. Also one of the most popular world over.
