I was really shocked and saddened to read about such levels of ignorance prevalent in our country.

I would not worry overly much about this practice indicating anything significant. That it is deplorable, I cannot doubt. But that it indicates "levels of ignorance prevalent in our country," I would not agree.

The idea of nudity is, in many cultures, looked upon as shocking. In the cultures of New Guinea and Hollywood, USA, it is not shocking at all. Customs and values have a lot to do with why we might consider something like this more shocking than the stupidities that are accepted in other nations or cultures.

I could make a list of such practices, but I fear that the tendency would be to compare one stupidity to another and draw silly conclusions about the relative wisdom and superiority of one culture over another.

The fact is, I can look to my neighbors and coworkers I see every day and find plenty of examples of useless behavior based on irrational ideas. Politics and news channels are full of such examples.

Not all of them involve taking off one's clothes, granted, but they are just as baseless when it comes to rational justification for the actions and, in many cases, much more harmful to the individual and/or society.

All of this is just a long way of saying that silly human behavior is just as prevalent in every corner of the world. This is a sad thing for those poor girls, but I don't think that any conclusions about a nation can be drawn from this practice. Right here in Texas, we've got old men chasing off the young boys and marrying multiple young teenaged girls, and the idiots in the prosecutor's offices don't seem to be able to do much about it.

Now, now. No reason to be narrow-minded. Having dated a fair number of country girls, I am quite hopeful that US farmers will adopt this quite sensible custom. Perhaps it will not work here, though I would be happy to observe carefully to moniter results, but it would likely slow the regrettable exodus of farm boys to the city.

Surely you gentleman are overlooking some positives to this.

Tim nothing against nudity or stupidity. Both are very entertaining, however beliving it would actually cause rain... I cant understand the mentality behind it.
