Thank you, gentlemen. I was at a party on Sunday for a friend from Varanasi; she was leaving her lab and taking up a new post doc position in another lab. Her husband, a very nice fellow, was somewhat puzzled as to why we Americans celebrated so many holidays.
For myself, I've never been much on holidays or special days, but Thanksgiving is a little different from all of our other holidays, and does have some important meaning for me.
For one thing, the founder of my New Mexico, Don Juan de OƱate, celebrated a thanksgiving during the Entrada in 1598. This, of course, isn't very well known in Anglo America, but its tradition certainly predates all of the Pilgrim mythology that permeates our national culture.
But for another thing, Thanksgiving was an observance begun by our President Lincoln during the dark days of our Civil War. So, the day causes me to reflect on all of the good things my family and friends and I have enjoyed over the past year. I also reflect on those who are so much more unfortunate than I am, suffering in many various and sad ways around the world. I recognize that it is not my doing, that I am not suffering in their places, but enjoy a life of safety, health, and prosperity.
It is somewhat of a sobering thing, to think of all the good things I enjoy, while so many others are deprived in many ways. So, while I am very thankful, I also am reminded of those who are without.
I do, therefore, have so much to be thankful for tomorrow, and am very grateful to you all for your good wishes.

Thank you. Going over to my sister's in an hour to to eat turkey. My brother flew in from out-of-town and has specifically requested quail, though,so we're bringing that, too. Don't know how my non-out-of-town vegetarian brother will respond to quail, but when I explain how my new dog and I personally thought of him when we shot little Buford the quail..
I have a very fine new dog (a German Wirehaired Pointer) after 5 months of having no dog for the first time in my adult life. Man, I am grateful to be back where I belong! Dog guys will understand..

October 12th is the Canadian Thanksgiving Day, more appropriate to their latitude. Their harvest has to be in earlier. November 27th would seem a bit late even for the pilgrims. Maybe they were a bunch of procrastinators. Cheers.

Great dogs,GWPs.Do you train your dogs?A member of ours who is not very active is quite passionate about dog training and trains a lot.In UK of course.A lot of our members are into dogs.Only, the art of training a gun dog and shooting and retrieving is almost lost.
If you could put up any pics, that will be grand.Thank you.
