India goes to war this weekend!

....Well... not really! But we will be blowing up more than enough gunpowder in the next few days to have run a decent sized war in the olden days! More seriously, diwali greetings to all and along with that a humble request that all of us at the very least limit our contribution to the collective noise and smoke pollution. Kids will be kids and will want some fun, so I don't suggest that anyone completely go the other way and completely shun fireworks (we all like things that go bang anyway ;) ), however it would be nice if we could limit their use of those loud "bombs" etc. (which can and do cause hearing damage), as well as limit our individual quotas somewhat. We can all make a difference, so lets do our individual bit... and if this makes sense to you, then please pass on the request within your circle of friends/ relatives/ acquaintances :)

I usually abhor being politically correct, but the anti-firecracker campaign makes a lot of sense (at least to me).... hence this post. No offence intended to anyone, hope none is taken. :)

Cheers!
Abhijeet

Hi ,
I agree with Abhijeet. While i was in India , of course i used to fire lots of crackers but next day it was difficult to breathe properly due to too much pollution. Some of the crackers were so loud that we would loose hearing temporarily.
Diwali is a fun festival and should be celebrated responsibly. In fact i miss Diwali and wish to be there to enjoy it.
Happy Diwali to all and be safe.
Cheers

Hi Abhijeet and Sandhu,

I really appreciate the thought process of having a happy and peaceful Deewali.

However the fun of bursting crackers makes noise pollution and total chaos. I just hate noise and I get really worked up when the neighborhood kids burst noisy crackers.

Top of everything the prices have gone so high. I am sure people living in extreme North should be paying an exorbitant price to purchase crackers manufactured from Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu.

I am sure the kids and younger generation start understanding the value of money and safety perspective during this Deewali.

Have a safe Deewali :D

Regards,
Manicks

Oh how I miss the good old days of my childhood when no one gave a sh#t about others or the environment. We could make a din at whatever time and whenever we wanted to :P :P :P

Here's to everyone; Wishing you a happy Diwali and a prosperous New year.
