Saahil... there is a lot in the world that is not explainable easily. Even for rational minds, like the stuff going on in quantum physics which really turn all conventional wisdom upside down. Or people slowing down light. Or ghosts.

And since this is general rambling, I dont see why we cant discuss the prices and availability of groceries and vegitables either.

Sit back, relax and watch the fun. No point in getting upset.

I for one would love to hear a nice ghost story.

It's useless to argue with them who haven't have been in a planchette or a seance session. If you believe in God, you have to believe in ghosts. For every positive, there is an equal and opposite negative. Supernatural and paranormal stuff do exist or let's take the example of the TV. You switch the channels, which is switching over the frequencies in ether. Take this world as the ether in which there are present multiple frequencies; you only feel the frequency which you match. But certain people have the capacity to catch the other frequencies; this is what you call a paranormal or supernatural experience.

That's what my opinion is, in logical lines.

Timnorris: as I mentioned earlier in your post regarding the bigfoot, stories like the ones I related about "La Llorona" and "the old man in the mountains" are of interest to me because they relate a part of the culture of my New Mexico, USA, which is quite diverse and unique. Although I personally don't subscribe to a belief in ghosts and such, my great friend and old boss told me that he saw "the old man in the mountains" personally, and because he is a person I hold in great respect, I listened to his story with great interest.

My old boss's father was a rancher also. When my boss was young, his mother would send him with supplies for the sheep camp high in the New Mexico mountains. It was a day and a half journey to the camp and and the same time back home for him. He was around 13 when he first began these trips on horseback by himself. His mother would tear down all of the old worn out jeans of the family and sew them together in to quilts, stuffed full of raw wool to use as a sleeping bag. My old boss told me that these were very warm.

Naturally, he had to spend a night alone making camp in the woods on the way out and again on the way back, at this young age.

i have stated my belief, but I have no comment on my old boss's and friend's story, because he is a man to be respected. As years passed, I found that his stories are also well known among many old timers in New Mexico.

I feel it is sufficient to state what I think about this, and that's all I will say about that matter. Having said this, if someone has a good story, I'm always up for a good one.

Interesting Do I believe maybe not but heard a far share while growing up so its always in the subconscious. The best way I can justify is from a dialogue in Greek Tragedy play The Bacchae. The tragedy is based on the mythological story of King Pentheus of Thebes and his mother Agavë, and their punishment by the god Dionysus (who is Pentheus' cousin) for refusing to worship him.

Tiresias the blind prophet suggests to the young King to worship the young God Dionysus because its prudent for a man to worship the God and its safer than offending one even if its fake. ( I am no literature guy just happened to see this performance in a Public theater  )

Agreed its all paranormal but most are myths my father had to stay in a rest house in remote part of Madhya Pardesh. It was believed that some old English lady who had lived there could be seen around and hence folks were bit nervous at that wonderful rest house near a wild life sanctuary.
Not my Dad who probably left a Scotch drink every night for the old gal and drank a toast to her -- he never had an issue.
Agree with Timmy, MOA et al lets hear some nice stories la Ruskin Bond types

Best

This is only true if you believe ghosts are "opposite of god". I think you are mixing the word ghost with devil. Since in whe western world they are two distinct identities, i am taking the liberty of presuming ghosts to be bhoot- as in ramsey brothers movie or ram gopal verma bhoot.

my (mis)understanding of ghosts is that they are wandering spirits (if an such things exist). You cant equate ghost with devil (opposite of god- that too in judeo-christian-islamic school of thinking; buddhism, jainism, sikhism and sanatan dharm dont have an equivalent of devil or opposite of god).

Even if one was to go by the sanatan mythology' 'bhoot' doesnt mean spirit/wandering soul etc.
Bhoot are not even evil. They are just many of the forms of life like maruts, yaksh, vanar, pishach. Bhoot are followers of shiva. in fact many scholars believe that bhoot were human followers of shiv/rudr and were concentrated in area near bhutan (land of bhoot) bhutan is also in himalayas geographically closer to rudr's abode and also where the band of shaivism still exists even in 21 century so one can assume that it must be exceptionally strong in 1000 bc.

it was only in 15-16 century we find the most famous reference that bhoot should be avoided (hence assumed they were evil). What no one even considers is the most simple explanation is that tulsidas who wrote this was a hardcore vaishnav; this occoured during the phase when vaishnavism (the modern religion erreneously named hinduism) was taking over the old religious beliefs of shaivism and there was no love lost between the two sects.
There is an instance when shiv orders his 'gans' (followers)- the bhoots to fight the devs- (followers of vishnu) the vaishnavites. over centuries bhoots became known as evil and today synonymous with the devil himself.

Ether doesnt exist. Yes sir the origin of ether was a scientific theory. material that is shapeless, weightless, colourless etc etc. a lot of religious texts written in nineteenth century use this term. we quote this term again and again despite the fact that it has been proven beyond doubt that ether doesnt exist.

A lot of things that cant be explained doesnt have to be "ghosts". It could be a lot of other things including our psyche not able to cope the idea of not being able to explain something and hence giving it an explanation that oout mind is comfortable with like ghosts/spirits etc.

A lot of ghost stories are unbelievable esp the ones that didnt involve oneself. the ones that involves oneself are not believed by others.

well let me add my 9 cents worth.

i had a experienced on two occasions a certain feelings. Feelings i am saying as i did not see anything. it was such a strong feeling of let say evil. this was while back when i was in Peru. i was going to this old city (Inca ruins) i have been there once or twice before. but on this occasion i went by the back route, which no one goes by including the local villager below. as i was climbing up i felt this feeling of being watched, i did not see anyone there but felt the fear of doomed and gloom there. so much so i decided to make a hasty retreat.

Now we have to know something of the Inca dead rituals. for one they used to put their dead chiefs in clefts of rocks all around the village etc to warn them of enemies approach. there are still bones to be found in some places in the rocks.

so are there ghosts? i do not know but i do not believe in ghosts on the other hand i do believe in evil spirits wondering around looking for a resting places :( .

here in Nagaland in the interiors there is also a story of man with hat and cape sleeping in the jungle. i forgot the name by which this thing is called by. I was told by a friend who actually met with one strange chap at night time. while sleeping out in the jungle. he is not easy to scare but he told me that very quickly packed his sleeping bag and moved to a new location for a good night sleep, as he felt he was unwanted guest. :D

Guys,

I have witnessed few strange incidents , I am not going to name them ghost or holy ghost but here are the stories.

This incident is of Kanpur Lal Inli mill road, anyone who has seen the area knows that this is a narrow road with 12 feet high wall on one side on on other side there is LalImli mill building, the stretch of road is about 350-400 meters.
There is no exit from the road till about 350 meters once you enter it and there is no opening in the wall and neither in the lal imli mill complex building as it locked since some years. So this is a passage which can be entered and existed by two side only, one being the 80 ft road and other being the road which merges in the civil lines road.

It was afternoon one hot summer, must be past college holidays as I was returning from my friends place on my cycle, I choose to pass by the passage mentioned above thinking that due to high walls on both side there will be some relief from sun probably as I can ride close to the walls.

When I approached middle of the passage I saw a man wearing while kurta and paijama, he was carrying a lunch box or something in a bag (I assumed lunch box that time), as I was passing him he called me "ruko beta" ,I looked back and stopped . he approached me and introduced himself as a worked of the lalImli mill and told me that he has left his money at home and needs some 5 rs so that he can get back to his home.
I was about 19 years and those days we used to discuss a lot about problem of beggars, thugs and poverty, I told him that he doesn't look like a poor fellow to me and anyways i don't have a five rupees to spare.
I pushed on the pedal and then I though what the heck give the old man 5 rs, I stopped and looked back to call him but he was nowhere, it was impossible for anyone to disappear in 4-5 seconds on that road even if they ran for sometime.
I cycled back to the end of the road till the point where I had entered, he was not there, I went back to the main lal imli gate ,which is almost in middle of this passage and which is where he had stopped me, it was locked and that is when it struck me. How come someone be working in the LalImli mill ? It has been closed for years.
I got a chill in my body ,I felt sorry for being such stupid ass and to deny a person a petty 5 rs, who knows I was being tested as it is in the stories :-).
It haunted me for many days, I kept going to that passage every day at the same time trying to find the man in white clothes but to no avail, except that I learnt the lesson - If someone asks and if you have, make provisions, let the right and wrongs be judged by the god.

_________________
Few years before the above incident took place another one of a different type took place as under -
I used to live near a densely populated lower middle class society in Kanpur, My immediate neighbors had two lil ones, one 9 year old and one 7 year old. They used to get tuition from a young girl in her mid twenties who used to live nearby in the area I mentioned above, her name was Seema.
One day we came to know that her father has passed away so she won't be coming for somedays, during those days when she was not coming I started giving the free tuition to the kids as the father of the kids was good fellow and he was teaching me some fine lessons in handling goons :-).
The kids were very nice and very quick to learn. we made fun of Seema at times, when they both would imitate her picking up the scale and threatening to hit if they didn't complete the homework. We had a lot of fun ,singing , dancing , air gunning, playing and little study as well.
After three weeks Seema was back and things were back to the original schedule, One day I was getting ready to visit my friends and was polishing my bike, when I heard the kids screaming and the elder one came running out holding hand of the younger one, their mother also came out scared.

I thought what the f some people can't even handle cockroach, mice, spider etc and I proceeded to their place which was on the same floor I was living at. And then I heard a very strange kind of voice more like mix of gargle, whizzing, and shallow - seema was acting weired I thought and then I realized she was speaking in a guy's voice, supposedly her father, I started laughing at the drama and started taunting who so ever she was acting to be to come out and have a man to man. In the beginning it was lot of words her or whatever it was and then the voice said 'abhi batata hoon', i said oh yeah try your best, but then it happened - I felt at every pore of my body something strange kind of forcing in overpowering me types, I used to meditate so i knew the ways of spreading in the body and I did.
I started sweating profusely I started chanting mantras but the struggle was going on, its tough to narrate actually what was taking place, virtually it felt like something penetrating inside at all pores level in three dimension. I held my breath pushed what ever it was wishing as if its blowing away and off ,after few more seconds it was over.

I looked at Seema, she was coming out of the feeling and was sitting on the bed looking at me as If she didn't know what was going on, she said hi bhaiya, I threw a hi back and rushed for my bike.
I kept paddling for hours afterwards , scared to stop and face the same thing again, there were plenty conclusions but I didn't take any as I was hardcore non believer, only believed in meditation and mantras of purification etc.

Still today I don't give it a name, but friends i won't like to face another of that kind of encounter ever.

Everything stated above is true , its your choice to believe or now.

its very believable. posession syndrome has been documented in psychiatry. go to a mehendipur village in rajasthan dausa district near jaipur.
go to balaji temple (in rajasthan and neighbouring states balaji is hanumanji), you will find innumerable posession cases any given day of the year.

hello all
well! well! as this is a forum on shooting, perhaps we could think of the anecdote on supernatural happening in one of Jim Corbett's. pity he did not elaborate on it later. Mention also must be made of a story of a haunted house where Kenneth Anderson and his driver enjoyed supper, to discover on the next day that they had been camping on a cemetry.
