IFG stickers....

Post by kanwar76 » Thu Nov 30, 2006 1:19 am

Hi Guys,

There've been quite a few posts here on Gun Rights in INDIA lately which made me realize that strength is in numbers so to raise the numbers we need to make our group more visible. I am thinking of getting some stickers made which can be put on cars and two wheelers. I will talk to some of my friends who are designers but if that doesn't materialize then I will get them made from some professional, All i want from you guys is some suggestions .

1. What do you think about our logo, Is it okay or do we need something else, If yes then please suggest what?
2. Color of the stickers?
3. Size of the stickers, Rectangular or Square?
4. Only with URL or with Logo also?
5. Any punch line (I am not sure about this.. something which can go under the url in small font)
6. Any general suggestion.

So Guys put your thinking caps on and let the suggestions flow.. :D

This is so weird Inder ... this morning I was thinking of some way to 'market' this site so there is more awareness and interest.

Let me put it this way, I actually got into shooting (in the US) and got to meet some nice guys because of IFG. God willing I'll even get to some hunting next month. As payback, I got 3 guys at work interested in guns who have their FOID cards now and are actively looking to nurture this new found hobby. They are not indians, but still... a gun lover is a gun lover!!

Bumper stickers is a great idea. I know there'll be one on both my cars and the motorcycle. ;) I'd say keep it simple... just the words 'indiansforguns.com' should do it. No logo required. I think curiosity will reel in visitors. I have personally checked out a few sites that sounded 'interesting' from a billboard or a bumper sticker. Just my 2 cents!

Yep!! You are right, same here I didn't know anything about serious air gunning until I met Mack The Knife on airgunbbs.com. Online forums are becoming nice way to meet new and like minded people and Bumper stickers is a good idea to make them popular apart from adding Google compatible key words.

Now where are you running buddy, your suggestion regarding logo is duly noted down now you need to suggest regarding other points size, color etc so go ahead and scratch your head

Abhijeet is owner of this site and anything concerned with this site, so he should be the one who needs to take final decision on this so Abhijeet we need go ahead and suggestions from you buddy.. what ya say?

Gentlemen,

There was a proposal on the old Yahoo boards asking for stickers though that seemed to have been forgotten when we moved over here. Thanks for reviving the idea. I agree with Amit - the URL alone on stickers is enough. I think the stickers are a very good idea. They need to be more visible in India than anywhere else. I am sure we would be able to increase our membership severalfold if this is done properly.

Let me know when the stickers are out. I would be happy to buy a few ad distribute them in India itself.

Cheers!

Mehul

Hey Mehul thanks for the head up buddy :)

That was me only who offered for IFG logo rebuild on Yahoo groups but some unpleasant things happened and that idea went kaput. No body needs to pay for them. I will get them made.. and we ll distribute them where ever our members are, India, Germany, UK, US... :D. If off course Abhijeet agrees

Hey Mehul, You also need to tell size and color also.. so go on...

1. What do you think about our logo, Is it okay or do we need something else, If yes then please suggest what?

It could be spruced up a bit. I would change the chite 'chakra' to the real Ashoka chakra as found on the Tri-colour.

2. Color of the stickers?

Chakra to be in blue as seen on the tri-colour. The crossed rifles could be shown in silhouette (black). Background could be white or the existing grey or perhaps even a pale rendition of the tri-colour or perhaps not

3. Size of the stickers, Rectangular or Square?

Rectangular, as seen on the boards masthead.

4. Only with URL or with Logo also?

Both or just the url. Visibility of the URL should be the most important factor

5. Any punch line (I am not sure about this.. something which can go under the url in small font)

Not in this series of stickers.

6. Any general suggestion.

Cannot think of any at the moment - yet to finish my first cuppa.

Good idea Inder. Let us start thinking of a nice catchy caption. The sticker should be as un-cluttered as possible with the IFG URL being prominent.

Shall we have our own poll on shortlisted captions and then bring it out on the stickers? What do you suggest gentle people?

Best-

Inder,

Double the thanks to you, then for suggesting the stickers first and then for reviving the idea. I believe the stickers, being bumper stickers, should be compact and the logo on both sides with the URL in the middle should be enough. People do not have much time to read in traffic, hence my suggestion.

As far as a caption is concerned, I would be more than happy to have one for our site and we could change it from time to time. Vikram, of course, is very good at writing them and we could expect him to come up with some very good suggestions. Others are also welcome to try - if Abhijeet gives the go ahead, we could even have a mini contest on the issue.

PS Inder/Amit - Trap in the evening tomorrow? Call and let me know. I am free after 2:00 in the afternoon and we could shoot if the weather is OK. No snow but it's been raining like crazy!

Back to the topic at hand - Inder thank you buddy, for reviving this excellent idea and your generous offer of bearing the expenses!

1. In all fairness, I think it would be best if we all could "buy" stacks of them and distribute the costs... as well as the stickers :)

2. Mack The Knife I'll be the first to admit - I am no graphic designer! ;) The "chakra" used was a ready made shape available in the program (Paint Shop Pro) - and was labelled as a cartwheel... was the closest representation I could find, so used it. The rest I drew by hand or should I say "mouse"... ;) I'm quite open to have a pro rework this, but don't see the value in spending upwards of 10k for having a pro do this work, the money would be better spent elsewhere, for example we are rapidly outgrowing our home here. Inder pointed out a few days back that the site was slowing down drastically, so we might just be moving to a more expensive hosting plan... sooner than later - so till we can have some volunteers for redesign... I guess the logo stays...

3. I think the logo & the URL or just the URL is perfect. From my limited experience with printers... more colours = more cost PLUS graphics = more cost. So in the interests of wider reach as opposed to spiffy looks, just the URL in a black typeface with white background, would be the most practical alternative. The typeface used for the logo is Verdana, so we could stick to that or use Courier which is more commonly used for representing URLs. Both are very "readable" fonts and should work just fine.

4. Since geography is an important constraint, it might be a practical alternative for us to finalise on one design - then have print runs in each city that we can find a volunteer - someone who is willing to take the onus for his/ her area. This would give more people an opportunity to contribute towards printing costs as well make wider distribution easier and save on postal/ courier charges.

Let me know what you guys think.

Cheers!

Let's go with this - just the url on a plain white background.

Spoke to a friend who had some WASI stickers printed and he tells me it worked out to Rs.7 or 8 per sticker. This is a colour sticker, so a monochrome will be cheaper.

I will bear the cost of the first 500 for the South India + overseas members.

Can you send me a 1:1 example of what you would like printed?
