Indian Bigfoot

Post by Timnorris » Sun Aug 23, 2009 5:36 pm

Hii guys,

I stayed in Garo hills (Meghalaya) for 3 years and I heard lot about this big ape like creature.........I also knew a person who had seen this creature ............at that time I was too young to take these things seriously.................below is an article

Claims by terrified villagers that ‘bigfoot’-type hairy beasts are roaming the jungles in the Garo hills area of Meghalaya state, close to the borders with Bangladesh and Bhutan, have prompted authorities to order an investigation. “A team of wildlife officials and other experts will conduct a study to find out if there is any truth in the locals’ claims about these hairy giants.” said Samphat Kumar, a district magistrate in the West Garo Hills district.

The creatures have been spoken of and occasionally spotted for years, but sightings have increased in the past month, prompting authorities to look into the matter, reports Yahoo News — AFP.

Local farmer Wallen Sangma said he had seen an entire family of the creatures — possibly a lowland relative of the Himalayan Yeti, or a cousin of the North American Bigfoot and Sasquatch, or Australia’s Yowie.

“The sight was frightening — two adults and two smaller ones, huge and bulky, furry.” he told an AFP reporter who visited the remote area on Thursday and Friday.

“Their heads looked as if they were wearing caps, and their color was blackish-brown.” he said, adding the four ‘monsters’ were about 100 to 130 feet (30 to 40 meters) away from him as he looked for firewood in a forested area, and vanished into the undergrowth.

Claims to have sighted such bigfoot creatures are treated skeptically by scientists because of lack of solid physical proof, but there are scientists and researchers who believe they could exist.

One Garo Hills group, the Achik Tourism society, has been trying to verify the creature’s existence for the past 10 years, photographing footprints reportedly 13 to 15 inches (33 to 38 centimeters) long, and ‘nests’ reported by locals.

They claim to have hair samples of the creature taken from the forest which will be sent for DNA testing.

Quite awhile ago, they had a special on, I think, the 60 Minutes news show here about Sasquatch. The news team went to Washington state to see about it. They showed all sorts of semi-scientific people coming out and looking for a sasquatch. The most interesting part of the whole thing was some very rustic guy they interviewed in a bar. This fellow was clearly a country type, and they asked him about the sasquatch, the existence of which he viewed with derision. He said that folks would come out from the city asking for his help to find the sasquatch, and when he said it didn't exist, they made fun of him as an ignorant country bumpkin.

So, he went home and made up a pair of big footprints out of plywood to strap on to his feet. He drove up to the mountains and strapped them on, and then ran all over in the snow. Within days, the TV news was running items on the new evidence for sasquatch that had been discovered by researchers. I found this to be almost as funny as the fellow who did it thought it was.

In New Mexico, there are a number of legends like this. The chief one is of La Llorona, or the wailing woman. It was said that she was a peasant girl who was the secret love of a son of a ranchero, or wealthy land owner. She had two children by this son. When she saw the son betrothed to the daughter of another wealthy ranchero, out of anger and spite, she drowned her two children in the river. Now her spirit searches along the river bank howling in anguish for her lost children. This is a useful tool for keeping children from wandering about at night, of course, for if La Llorona caught them, she would take them away as her own.

Another is that of the "old man in the mountains." This fellow is an ancient bearded one who appears and disappears at will. My old boss and friend claims to have seen him in the woods, himself. This story apparently got started from the real experiences of an Italian who, seeking some kind of spiritual peace, traveled first to Spain and then to South America. After a number of accounts of his doings there as a pilgrim and wandering hermit, he traveled to Cuba and then North America, and went to Quebec. The Canadians were not too impressed with him and finally he traveled to New Mexico and lived as a hermit in the mountains above Las Vegas (the real one, not that other one in Nevada) for about 5 years, before he traveled to Southern New Mexico and was later found murdered.

The mountains of Northern New Mexico are fertile fields for lay spiritual societies, the most famous being the Penitentes, and a local society was set up to venerate this wandering hermit. I expect that the legend of the old man in the mountains stems from this individual.

In my travels, where ever I've come across a fellow New Mexican, bringing up the topics of La Llorona and the old man in the mountains has never failed to restart the conversation at a new level of familiarity.

Tim(Moris),

I can tell you that the story about Indian Bigfoot is bunkum.I can prove it to you.The Indian Bigfoot is not in the Garo Hills. It (He rather) is in United Kingdom at the moment. Don't trust me? Check the pic below.

Big footprints have been discovered about in remote forest,............even hair samples have been found....................why would the people living in such remote areas lie in the first place.............I dont think they want publicity and also all the people who have seen the creature have similar discription ............there must be some sought of creature very tall walking upright....................recently some BBC reporters had visited the spot they also had a program on it on BBC World...........

i would politely disagree. if publicity was the only reason people told tall tales, then the names of people who started the fire breathing dragon/unicorn/broomstick riding witch story would have been celebrities for ages to come.

on a serious note, do you know the name of the first fisherman who hooked a coelcanth and muttered, "hmmm, that' a mighty strange fish", because i don't!

if people have to spread the story of a hut on chicken legs where an old women sits spinning, it's not because they want publicity. probably because of loquacity, which makes them label a layer of floating seaweeds as human hands holding on to ships

As for footprints and hair samples, i'm not sure they would stand up as scientific evidence. The world of cryptozoology is littered with red herrings and false trails. remember the Patterson-Gimlin film on the american bigfoot? or the surgeon's photo of the Loch Ness monster?

Scientific evidence can be faked in places like the USA where bigfoot is a hot topic and people have all the fancy costumes to do so.......... although I doubt it........................but in the Norteast region of India where not many people bother to go .............................and the local people are more worried about their day to day survival than to cook stories or make fake footprints  and considering that these sightings and evidences are comming from various parts of the region since many years.........I think if it is not a bigfoot and then it is a new species of a huge ape.................we have still not discovered many species of animals and still new species are being discovered........................there are many untouched places we dont know about

BTW the pattersons vedio as you mentioned...............many experts believe it is authentic
