MYSORE: Bullets started raining at the foothills of Chamundi on Mysore-Nanjangud highway on Saturday afternoon, luckily not hitting any of the hundreds of people who use that road and only piercing a vehicle parked there.
The bullets were noticed by Mini-Vehicle Owners’ Association members who were at the spot and moved immediately to safer places. They informed the police, who arrived at the spot and said the bullets could have come from the nearby shooting range used by their force for practise. Association members said they saw 11 bullets on the ground, while the police said they recovered nine shells.
The incident occurred around 1.15 pm. DCP K T Balakrishna said they found nine bullets and all of them were fired from the firing range, allotted to the District Armed Reserve police near Chamundi Hills. According to a preliminary investigation, bullets were misfired by DAR men and two bullets were found on the busy road. Bullets have been fired from a Thomson weapon, which is used only by the police. Commissioner Bhaskar Rao has issued a show-cause notice to Mysore SP Ramasubba and asked him to initiate action against persons responsible.
