How hard was it for you to get a PB/RB license. What reasons did you give? And how hard would it be for a normal citizen to get one. And from normal i meant a person who isn't a well respected national or international shooter, doesn't have his/her life in danger or hasn't served in dangerous jobs like military or police etc.

Now a days PB licenses are almost impossible to get until you are a VVIP like MS Dhoni. Giving Dhoni example here because he got PB license few years back.
In good old days, PB licenses were issued by state home department and people who were close to CM or Ministers used to get PB license easily.
Now a days PB licenses are issued by central home ministry and the procedure has been made extremely difficult.
In pistols only 9mm is PB and caliber more powerful than 9mm are NPB like .45 acp, .40, .357 sig.

What is the reason behind that ?

Reason behind making the PB license difficult to get ?
Government want to disarm people. Even the procedure to get NPB license is becoming difficult day by day.

There are quite a few reasons to get pb license. Like getting access to better semi auto rifles, no need to worry about barrel length & ammo prices.

Vineet, are you talking about prohibited weapons license or restricted weapons license here? It's understandable why prohibited weapons licenses will be extremely hard to get. But, restricted firearms licenses should fall in the domain of reason. For example, I suppose possessing heirlooms is valid reason for applying for a restricted firearms license.

OK, so what all weapons will be possible for someone with a restricted weapons license to purchase? To my mind, the following options should open up:
1. 9 mm pistols and revolvers in 38 s&w & 455 webley.
2. rifles in 308, 303 and 556 calibers.
3. Semi-automatic centerfire rifles.
From what I can make out, rifles like the SLR, M1 carbine, M1 Garand etc should be legally purchasable in their original format by someone who has a restricted weapons license. Will this be true?
Also, now that a few manufacturers are making rifles for foriegn maufacturers in India, can someone with a restricted license buy something from them? For instance, the license-holder can ask a manufacturer to make a rifle semi-auto only, so, will that legally allow him to purchase the weapon from the manufacturer?

Under Heirloom you get what is a family jewel. So it doesn't matter what bore but as far as a normal citizen is concerned NPB itself is very difficult to get a license. Reason PB exists because it's being used by law enforcement.

From what I can make out, there strictly isn't a PB category as we're told. There is a prohibited arms category which includes stuff the military uses like incediaries, automatic rifles, missiles, mines and stuff. Kalashnikovs and Insases will fall in the prohibted category since they have burst and full auto modes.
The next is restricted firearms which include semi-auto rifles chambered in select cartridges like 7.62X51, 5.45X45, 7.62X39 and 303. Same goes for sidearms and shotguns. The perimissions required here are different from a prohibited arms, but to my understanding, there's still a possibility of getting a permit here as opposed to a prohibited arms license which is damn near impossible.
What confused me was just what all can someone with a restricted firearms license buy as guns like SLR and M1 carbine in their semi-auto glory will be perfectly purchasable here. But, does this really happen? As in, someone gets a restricted weapons permit and they just go out there and buy a Garand, a carbine or whatever? Or, why stop there, can they also request a manuafturer to take out prohibted features from a weapon (like burst full auto mode) so that it can be legally purchased?
I imagine these are a beer enfused lights of fancy, so, please do take them for what it's worth.
I still thought these would make for interesting thought experiment.
