GHAZIABAD: A 37-year-old trader was arrested on Monday for allegedly murdering his wife in their flat in DLF Ankur Vihar, Loni, on Saturday night because he was miffed that she had joined an aerobics class against his wishes.
According to police, Ritu Bala (35) was found dead inside the bedroom of the second floor flat on Sunday night after neighbours complained to police that the flat had remained locked the entire day and they had heard no sounds from inside.
A police team reached the apartment at 10.30pm on Sunday and found that Ritu had been shot dead and there were no signs of her husband, Vikram Tomar, and their kids, which immediately made the finger of suspicion fall on him. The couple had been married for 10 years and had a daughter and a son, aged nine and five, respectively. Police launched a search operation for Vikram and nabbed him from Gadhi Katiya Mod in Loni on Monday.
Loni SHO A P Singh said Vikram confessed to the murder and told cops he had shot his wife on Saturday night, after which he fled the house with his kids. "He had used a sophisticated pistol with a silencer attached to it to commit the murder. She had been shot once behind her right ear lobe. The murder weapon has been recovered," he said.
Vikram reportedly told the cops that the kids were watching TV in the living room when he killed Ritu in the bedroom. "He immediately took the kids out in his car under the pretext of buying them ice cream. But he drove them to Delhi, where he left them in the custody of a relative. The kids were not even aware that their mother had been murdered," the SHO said.
Police said Vikram was upset with Ritu for having joined an aerobics class some days ago against his wishes, and had also reprimanded her for her friendship with a particular woman at the aerobics studio. Ritu's father, Yadav Singh, told TOI that the two had had a tumultuous relationship and had frequent fights because of Vikaram's drinking habit. He said the couple's daughter often used to complain about his behaviour.
"Vikram had earlier threatened Ritu of killing her if she did not mend her ways. Ritu had complained about this to me earlier. On Saturday evening, Vikram called up my son and told him repeatedly over the phone that he has killed her and asked him to take away his sister's body from his home. But we thought Vikram didn't mean what he was saying in a drunken haze. We got a call from police on Sunday that Ritu has been found dead in the house," Yadav Singh said.
The report of an autopsy on Ritu's body is awaited and police have lodged an FIR at the Loni police station.
I don 't know if the reporter got this correctly or not, but if this is correct the criminals are going to have a blast.
