I Killed Him. I Did What a Father is Supposed to Do
HYDERABAD: At an average height of 5ft 4in, with a lean and weak physique, a haggard looking Vallabha Rao, aged 65, isn’t aggressive in any sense of the term. It’s hard to believe this is the same man who mustered courage to kill his daughter’s stalker and saved her from the clutches of death at his residence early Friday.
Express caught up with the brave father as he sat in the lobby of a hospital, where his daughter, wife and nephew are undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the stalker’s assault. Several people, who read about him, surrounded him and showered praises on him. “Yes, I killed him or else, he would have finished my family. I did what a father was supposed to do!” he told Express.
The proud father further added, “The authorities have told me to forget about what has happened. I really do not care either.” The police have dropped the case against him as he had acted in defence of his family. “He is free. There is no case,” confirmed K Purushotham, inspector, Kukatpally.
Rao’s daughter Neeraja Krishnaveni (25) sustained deep cut injuries on her left hand, forearm, chest and back of the head. His wife Tulasamma(58) sustained head injuries and nephew Durga Gangadhar (24) received deep wounds on his hand, neck and fingers. Doctors performed a surgery on Neeraja and have kept her under observation till Monday.
Rao is confident the trio will recover and be back back home soon.
Rao said he had met Neeraja’s stalker Mallesh alias Raju only a year ago when the latter approached the family asking for the girl’s hand in marriage. “It was a one-sided love affair. Mallesh came to take revenge on Neeraja as we are trying to find her another match,” Rao said
His second daughter Venkatalakshmi, seated beside him, explained, “My mother opened the door and he attacked her straight away. He then went to Neeraja’s room. As Gangadhar (nephew) came out, he was also attacked. Meanwhile, my father returned. With so much blood on the floor, Mallesh slipped. My father then picked up the sickle and killed him.”
“My father is a hero to all of us and a role model for all fathers now,” she added proudly. Rao had come to the city with his family three years ago in search of a better life.
After marrying off two daughters, he had suffered some financial losses. Leaving behind the daily wage agricultural worker’s job at Samalkot in East Godavari district, he had joined the Mayur fan company as an in-house watchman at Prashantnagar industrial estate for a monthly remuneration of Rs 6,000.
A firearm was not in this incident, but it is still a good example to to get the point across to the masses about the importance to RKBA vis-à-vis right to self\private defense.

Vallabha Rao ji is a real life hero. I want myself and my children to be brave like him. And nagarifle, your suggestion is very good. But what the gift should be?

Hats off to the brave old gent for doing what was required.
It is worth noting that luck had a part to play too given that the culprit slipped on the other victims blood and dropped the weapon which Rao picked up and used to attack the culprit. Else possibly the elderly man could have found himself over powered and defenceless.
Hope we dont need more such incidents for the policy makers of our country to realise that the citizens cannot always prove the "grave and eminent danger" they may face untill it is too late.

Hats off to the brave father! He has done what every man is supposed to do - protect one's own.
And as far as RKBA goes, I don't think ostriches with heads buried in the sand will wake up with this or a thousand similar incidents.

Between these two statements lay "The Truth, the Whole Truth &
Nothing but the Truth"
Bravo Mr. Vallabh Rao....The nation salutes you
A closer look reveals 2 conclusive actions...
1. The man's courage to defend / protect his family against aggression...
2. The positive reaction of the 'Law' in upholding the courageous deed....
