This site was shared on Team-Bhp and I proceeded to do what any firearm junkie would do,

Rifles imported , interestingly a Mauser popped up

https://www.zauba.com/import-rifle-hs-code.html

https://www.zauba.com/import-mauser-hs-code.html

Air pistols,

https://www.zauba.com/import-4r-steyr-hs-code.html

this site will help those who are buying from resellers in India find out what cost it was imported at and what they are paying.

Actually, there are several Mauser rifles, M03 and M66. I find it interesting that a rifle chambered for 8x68S would be listed for sporting use, hunting being prohibited. Whoever imported that one must have some connections.

"Whoever imported that one" lay on his/her belly in prone position and shot the Minimum Qualifying Score with open sights at 300 meters and after putting his/her score on the board, and struggled to borrow a rifle for practice and begged and scrounged for ammo from other shooters and fought the demons of changing wind in order to earn his/her import licence to import a legally permitted bore.

No connections required, friend, only a very high level of hard work.

T.R,Hunting like Prostitution is one of India's worst kept secret, recently a cpl of Blaser's in the 06 were sold in the excess of US $ 35ks,the Remington's 700,CDLs & Zastava's in the 06s go for 20 Ks US.I am sure no one is gonna use either of these for target Shooting. They wiped out an entire population of Tigers from Sariska & nearly did the same at Kanha. { both these are Tiger/Wildlife sanctuary's} What odds do you think a cpl of Pigges/Sambars/Kakars/Chitals,etc,ec have.
PS;i am still using the old conversion rate of 1 US $= INR 60.PPS the guy getting the 8 X68 must be having a good source for ammo cause this aint available all that easy.

The point being, no one with any knowledge or sense would pick this cartridge for target shooting up to 300 meters. And. there is only one manufacturer for the cartridge, and no target ammo. For game that can bite back, though, an excellent choice.

For some reason, all my browsers are blocking the websites saying they are dangerous. Anyone else is facing that problem? I am not suggesting anything here. Just asking.Cheers.

I have seen Sauvestre 8X68S cartridges for sale here. It is such an uncommon cartridge,IMO, I was amazed to find it here. The shopkeeper shrugged his shoulders and said that there are folks who just like to let off a few rounds. About Rs.375 per cartridge was the price.

I heard that the 8X68S is a barrel burner.

No more so than any other high pressure cartridge with similar case volume to bore ratio. Much less than a 7mm Remington Mag, or smaller bore on a similar case. The 6.5X68, now, will burn out a barrel in less than a thousand shots. But very few hunters will get a chance to use these rifles that much. Ground squirrel hunters in the US being an exception. Not that they would use anything like an 8x68 for that purpose.
