One of the finest and best jeeps that laid the foundation of every modern SUVs and offroaders were the legendary Willys MB and Ford Gpw which both were practically the same vehicle produced in the WW2 era by USA. Those were the first go anywhere vehicle and was very capable as well. I myself own a 1943 fully restored Ford Gpw and a 1954 unrestored Willys cj3b, Thanks ngrewal for sharing the link.
Regards
Raman

Lovely post Navi with some amazing old snaps.
General Purpose (G.P.) . That's how the name Jeep was coined.
Interestingly even after so many decades and advancement in technology. The basic design of a Jeep still remains the same.

Great pics, Navi, thanks. I had a jeep period, myself, including a 1942 MB, a Utility Wagon, and a 1966 Wagoneer. My Dad was in charge of his battalion's motor pool for the second half of WW2, and he had many tales about jeeps and how to get them to do all sorts of things (including how to do a fast start without using the clutch…). These pics brought back a lot of memories of his stories.

Fantastic thread.
The secretary of our rifle club owns a WWII issue Jeep : petrol engine, 4x4, low bonnet and complete with the original army issue shovel, winch, extra jerry can, map leading light et al. I drove it once for ten minutes or so (the beauty is a guzzler and I didn't want to burn too much fuel). The experience was mind boggling
