It seems that the Russians have massacred more than 2000 stray dogs in Sochi in preparation for Winter Olympics!
Tragic, when signs of less-than-perfect venues become the excuse of taking so many innocent lives!!! Just to save face!

Last year an international golf tournament was held at KGA in Bangalore, a course that has a healthy population of stray dogs. All the dogs were caught and housed in a shed and fed biriyani night and day until the tournament was over. They were then released and allowed to reoccupy the course

Strays are a problem. Neutering them/putting them to sleep is the best all around solution

So are a lot of "homo sapiens". Reminds one of the forced "family planning" during the Emergency.

Yeah true. That was bad. So what is your solution to this problem? And it is a problem. Stray dogs and monkeys cause trouble every year all over the country. If you want this land safe for humans, you control the population of the dogs and monkeys by humane means.
But i guess thats too harsh for you. I wonder what you do with the flies, mosquitoes and cockroaches in your house? Do you show them the same consideration?

All problems are caused by over population of humans. We cut forests, and then blame the tigers and leopards and elephants. We throw garbage, and blame stray dogs and rats and cats. Perhaps forced sterilisation wasn't a bad idea, when applied to humans!!
And equating dogs and mosquitoes is like saying you won't take medicine, as it will kill the poor viruses inside you. Ever had a spider wag its tail at you?
The most "humane" method used on stray animals is supposed to be gassing. If gassing is so humane, why is poor Hitler so demonised?

I agree with Safarigent. India accounts for over 90% of rabies deaths worldwide, the overwhelming number of them caused by bites by strays. Your humanity is commendable, but it is of little solace to the parents/ siblings/ children etc of those victims.
A concerted effort can be made by dog lovers to find homes for these strays, but those which remain 'unadopted' (as I am certain many will) need to be put down. This is my opinion, you are free to hold your own but I fail to see how Hitler and his ilk enter into the picture... May I also take this opportunity to remind you of Godwin's law!
Cheers!

There actually are a few such organizations that work for the welfare of stray dogs...

@ Farook - sure, but there aren't many takers (for adopting strays), or at least no where near enough to ensure that they stay off the streets. So it's high time we changed the law back to the time when Municipal authorities were allowed/ mandated to check the menace of strays by using dog catchers and putting unclaimed dogs to sleep.

Completely Agree with Abhijeet here,
I wonder how strays are different than any other vermin. Anybody who are feeling love for these please come to my house and take 20 or more present in my street. I am really getting tired of freaking opera which goes on daily at night. My dad was not able to sleep when he was in Bangalore.
Farook: I recently got mauled by the aunties in cupa facebook. My crime was to say no to a 1 year dog.
