Hi
http://www.tripurainfo.com/Info/Archive ... atId=12267

Couple of shots were fired from a licensed 0.32 revolver by a Doc near our resident. 3 school students of standard 8 & 9 nearly missed the mishap staying in a hostel escaped the dreadful incident. Doc possess 1 0.22 rifle & 1 o.32 revolver (both licensed). Obviously not the best of news for gun lovers, doc is now in trouble for all the wrong reasons. Police seized both the firearms.
Thanks Moulindu

HI,
If the doc fired to prevent haraasment of his daughter by hooligans then he is justified where were the neibours when his daughter were haraased ?It is bad that it hit unintended place it is due to poor marks manship. The police had no right to seize the both arms it is punitive.

This is very disturbing....
While understanding the doctor's concern for his daughter - he behaved irresponsibly.
At best he should have brandished the weapon to scare the hooligans & later complained to the police about the intrusion & incident.
In retrospect we should consider....
1. Whether was it the first time the holigans misbehaved...
2. Had the doctor complained to the police earlier & they did not respond...
3. Did any altercation take place probably after the doctor warned the hooligans & they threatened him & his daughter...
Any way it would be interesting to know the outcome....

Do we know whether the doctor did or did not brandish the weapon to scar the hooligans?

Do we know whether the incident was of a nature, that it could be put off and the police notified without harm to his daughter?

The Original Poster's post did not have any of the details, but the dsingh added some. I think that, rather than rushing off and making all sorts of hasty judgments about the doctor, police, and all else concerned, we should have more information. The general public is going to rush off and make assumptions and judgments -- we should not be guilty of that, ourselves.

I dont think brandishing a weapon to be a particularly bright idea..

Hi
Update to my earlier post......report of another newspaper
After his practice doc went back to his apartment at the firs floor to greet his relatives & to whom probably he has displayed his weapon. The weapon was loaded (mistake on docs part) & some how the trigger got squeezed. The bullet passed 2 glass windows before smashing the third one & hitting the wall of the third floor (where the students were resting), of the SC hostel, the distance is approx 50mts. Police rushed to the scene & after investigation found out about the doc & the doc admitted his fault.

My sister-in-law was his patient & said that he is a very sober & down to earth gentleman & no way he could be involved in such case, moreover it was also said by my inlaw that his daughter is married & presently staying in Kolkata. So this is a very contradictory report given by two different newspaper. After all the input I would like to go with the report of the second newspaper, but still its doc's fault for handing over a loaded gun to a some one else.
thanks Moulindu

It's crazy how the media reports these things. The news report contains virtually no facts (they do say that it was a .35 caliber revolver)and is mostly based on conjecture.

Does the media really think that its relevant (or even ethical) to state that a "few teenagers were involved in a brawl in the residence" in one line and then automatically taint the doctor's/daughter's image by claiming "the entire episode was an outcome of a cupid’s game between a number of boys and the daughter".

For all we know (and we know nothing) it could have been personal enmity or harassment or even an accidental firing.

The Assam Tribune has a better take on the story here http://www.assamtribune.com/scripts/det ... 0613/at046

Terrible, terrible reporting is all I can say!

After, the incident was reported; police personnel from West Agartala police station rushed to the spot and recovered an empty cartridge of a revolver from hostel complex

I wonder how the empty cartridge reached the hostel complex from the Dr's home

Very true. It is an excellent way to get shot, at worst, and at best a good way to be invited for a stay in "Hotel Graybar."

It is common knowledge that a weapon is never brought out unless there is a great need, and then, only when there is a total intent to use it. I believe that there is no lack of such traditions in India.

First of all , journalism / news reporting at it's best .

Secondly , assuming the reports of the second newspaper is accurate , it's sheer irresponsible behavior on the part of the gun owner to hand over his loaded weapon to an untrained / inexperienced individual .

Finally , if the police confiscated the weapons from Dr Roy , I would say , they did the right thing ; such utter irresponsible individuals should not own firearms .
