This weekend I decided to make a thinner profile workbench for my Garage, this was my first attempt at making stuff from wood, but it turned out be pretty straightforward.

Frame 2/4 Douglas Fir wood - 7 ft x 19"


4/4 GDF legs with 16" 2/4 bottom braces with 3/8th " hex bolts


Top 4 x 2/6/8


table height - 38", Length - 8ft, width - 22.5"

Pretty functional and clean. Well done. How many hours of labour?

you'll need a cross beam to connect the two legs at the bottom otherwise the bench will sway a lot if you want to do anything serious..

thanks, it took About 6 hours, Would have been faster if the wife helped, only if....

If I could interject with my two cents-

If you have a permanent spot for it, screwing it to the wall makes it much more rigid than a brace will. You can either use an angle bracket or you can screw a small piece of 2X4 to the wall stud and then screw your bench to the 2X4.

If you decide to add a cross-brace, go from a leg to the box you made to attach your top too. If you just screw another horizontal brace the table will still have the ability to wobble as you have made a rectangle that can turn into a parallelogram when it wobbles. To fix it you add a brace that adds a triangle to the geometry, if that makes sense. If what I have written is hard to understand let me know and I'll come up with some diagrams.

thanks, that does sound like a good idea, I was thinking of adding gusset along the length, and screwing it to the wall might be the way to go...

I would definitely screw it to the wall.
That will come in handy when you start reloading.

I Did screw the table it to the wall, turned out to be a pretty sturdy work bench, made my life a lot easier in building a small study table and carburettor rebuild for my bike.
