I remember this show very well as a kid. It was one of the many Westerns on TV at during those times. For some reason, it never tickled my fancy. Conners was also in another Western, "Branded," about an Army officer in the Old West who was dishonorably discharged for something he didn't do.

There were toy Winchesters modeled on the one Conners used on the show (which was like the one John Wayne used in "Stagecoach" with regards to the lever) back in those days that had this little tab attached to the trigger loop of the lever. If it was flipped out, it would trip the trigger as the lever was closed. Then kids could rip off a string of shots like Connors in the show.

Connors played for the Dodgers and Cubs baseball teams.

He was married for a time to an Indian actress, Kamala Devi.

My favorite role of his was in the great Science Fiction movie, "Soylent Green." He plays a very heavy bad guy in that movie.

Timmy, I remember watching both as well. I suspect that "branded" is now on the web somewhere, but it was a rather obscure series when it was out.

In regards to "The Rifleman", there was one show where the bad guys were trying to make a guy talk, or maybe he was a gambler who owed them money", but he was buried up to his neck on a race track and before he was rescued by Chuck Connors they would ask him something and then have a guy ride a lap around the track, running over his head and of course he'd scream every time that happened.

Anyway, that scene gave me nightmares for quite a while afterwards!

Like you, I also remember that for a few years as you mention, most any toy lever action rifle made had that little tab on the lever that you could flip so the rifle would fire when the lever closed.
