I'd say she's a smart mom!
Justice alone is the mainstay of government and the source of prosperity to the governed, injustice is the most pernicious of things; it saps the foundations of the government and brings ruin upon the realm - Sher Shah Sur, Sultan-ul-Adil.

Re: You really don't want to make mom mad
I was just visiting my old boss and mentor in Southern Colorado. He's a very wise man.
He has 3 sons and a daughter, and the man who mentored him told him: "Don't worry about your daughter. The worst that can happen to you is that she will come home pregnant, and that's a blessing. Worry about your sons. They will go out drinking and slam into a phone pole when they are drunk and kill themselves."
My old boss told me that later on, he heard that this man had lost one of his own sons this way.
Sounds like this mom has the right strategy for keeping her son alive.

Here in Minnesota, they can take the written test at 15 and then they will be given a learners permit (after taking drivers ed. in school). They can drive as long as they are accompanied by a licensed adult. After they have had the permit for six months, they can take the road test as long as they have not had any moving violations or an alcohol or controlled substance violation. if the pass the road test, then they are given a provisional drivers license on their 16th birthday. The provisional license is good till they turn 18 when they get a regular license. The learners permit has some restriction like no night driving, etc.\lollzz, can 16 year olds really get a license to drive in the US
Farm permit.
A 15 year old may qualify for a restricted farm work driver’s license, a special medical driver’s license, or a motorized bicycle (moped) permit after completing a driver education course and passing a road test. A restricted farm work driver’s license allows a young person to help a parent or guardian with farm work. The license holder may drive alone to perform farm work during daylight hours, within 20 miles of the farmhouse, in cities with populations of less than 100,000 (which means pretty much all of Minnesota except the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul and their suburbs).
When my daughter turned 15, she got her learners permit and only drove if we were in the car with her. When she turned 16, she got her drivers license and her first car, a Dodge Dynasty. She got a big old boat of a car so if she was in an accident, she would have a lot of car surrounding her. She also got her first job and has worked ever since, even holding two jobs all through college. Once she got into college, and proved that she was a safe driver, she got a smaller car. She paid her own bills through college including for her rent, utilities, food and entertainment. She also paid her own way through college. I told her that if she wanted to live at home, it would all be free but she wanted to step out on her own. At 18 she got her own apartment and moved out. A lot of kids here grow up quick and most of them learn to handle the responsibility of driving and working at an early age.
At 21, she got her own handgun and a permit to carry. She had had several years of training and shooting by then. Her first gun handling experiences was with an NRA certified instructor. After that I took her with me to the range every Sunday (even when she was in college). I would pick her up and we would have lunch and head to the range for a few hours.
..and to show him that screw-ups have consequences.Sounds like this mom has the right strategy for keeping her son alive.
