Gentlemen, today on a long cross-country flight, I watched Pyaasa, the 1957 Guru Dutt film also starring Mala Sinha and Waheeda Rehman.

Many of my friends have recommended this film highly. They were wrong -- in a good way. I thought it was a tremendous film, well directed and with absolutely top notch, superb acting.

I think that ordinarily, Waheeda Rehman would have stolen the show, except that Guru Dutt's performance was so exceptional.

The story of selfishness, greed, commercialism, and plain out-and-out small nastiness was very well illustrated.

Now I see why this film is considered a milestone. I wish I could think of the words that would do justice to this film, but I just cannot. What a treat!

Wonderful Timmy, it is only fair that you must watch Kaagaz Ke Phool as well. Both the movies are Classic Bollywood at its finest.

Was Pyaasa available with English sub titles ?

P.S: Can I recommed Dev Anand's GUIDE.
