Science Fiction come true?

I saw these items recently and though I would share. I know there are many technology geeks on IFG who migt appreciate this.

EMP Mssile:
Announced on October 16th Boeing and the US Airforce successfully tested the CHAMP missile (Video at this link)
“This technology marks a new era in modern-day warfare,” said Keith Coleman, CHAMP program manager for Boeing Phantom Works. “In the near future, this technology may be used to render an enemy’s electronic and data systems useless even before the first troops or aircraft arrive,”
Laser Cannons:
Announced on Oct 23rd US Navy ships to receive shipboard Laser Cannons
That’s how close the U.S. Navy is to being able to field the first generation of “directed energy” weapons aboard ships, according to Rear Adm. Matthew Klunder, the chief of the Office of Naval Research. Klunder made the claim Monday to WIRED.com’s Danger Room, which has been following the development of the futuristic laser arsenal.
Earlier this year Klunder’s office had said the Navy was four years away from mounting the laser weapons, but he told WIRED Monday that recent tests had been “very successful” and the Navy has figured out physics issues that plagued early concepts.
“We’re well past physics,” he said. “We’re just going through the integration efforts… Hopefully that tells you we’re well mature, and we’re ready to put these on naval ships.”
The weapons are designed to track and fire on threats to a warship that could include anything from armed drones and small “swarm” boats to incoming missiles and aircraft.
Other items in development
The Naval Rail-gun:
BAE Systems won a contract to deliver a 32 megajoule lab launcher in June 2007 to the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Electromagnetic Launch Facility, located in Virginia at the Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Dahlgren Division Laboratory. On 31 January 2008, test firing began with this launcher. The railgun was fired at 10.64MJ (megajoules) and the 7 lbs. (3.2 kg) test slug projectile attained a muzzle velocity of 8,268 fps (2,520 mps).

This stuff is really brilliant :D Now we can fend off those darn aliens that keep zapping and invading the US.
On a serious note though, Life is all about one-upping our competitors. There are tons of technologies that were invented to solve the next biggest threat even before that threat occurred, and there are tons of technologies that were never actually used for what they were made for. It's only a matter of a few years before even cellphones have anti-emp-cannon chips ("These new chips can keep you running even if you're bombarded with fifty thousand EMP cannons! All for $0.99.") and they'll be mass manufactured and put everywhere they will fit, and made edible and put into fruits "The best electronically healthy food. Don't eat those other food stuff which have cheap electronics, ours is the only true health-conscious chip that fights fat internally!".

We'll just find ways to make things easier for us, and then work out how to fix problems caused by making things easier. I vote that we ditch everything and start building mind control devices already. After all, we all want everything to just work from right where we're sitting :)

Those new weapons are just some of the systems fielded by the US.
Take a look at the BLU-108. Absolutely stunning!

CBU-97 Sensor fused system (SFW)

One sub-munition with four skeet is called a BLU-108

The CBU-103/ CBU-104/ CBU-105/ CBU-107 is family of Wind Corrected Munitions Dispensor (WCMD). The WCMD is a bolt on tail kit guidance system that is attached to the dispenser.
The CBU-97 in conjunction with the Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser guidance tail kit, which converts it to a precision-guided weapon, is designated the CBU-105

India is slated to get the CBU-105.

From Wikipedia - India has a well-developed biotechnology infrastructure that includes numerous pharmaceutical production facilities bio-containment laboratories (including BSL-3 and BSL-4) for working with lethal pathogens. It also has highly qualified scientists with expertise in infectious diseases. Some of India’s facilities are being used to support research and development for BW defense purposes. India has ratified the BWC and pledges to abide by its obligations. There is no clear evidence, circumstantial or otherwise, that directly points toward an offensive BW program. New Delhi does possess the scientific capability and infrastructure to launch an offensive BW program, but has chosen not to do so. In terms of delivery, India also possesses the capability to produce aerosols and has numerous potential delivery systems ranging from crop dusters to sophisticated ballistic missiles.[111]
Is anyone aware of this?? Or are they spreading out a false propaganda?? :o

And if thats true (hope it is not!), then EMPS & Rail guns will fail against a sudden upsurge of a plague..
