Could any one throw light on the possibility of the IOF being under the MRTP act.
In essence it has monopolised the purchase of weapons and given rise to the existing ridiculous prices of old weapons.
The ban on import has enabled them to sell sub standard guns to civilians who have no option but go and buy from them!!
Could someone take this up in the right forum?
Even if they were to be an indenting agent for arms and civilains could place an order with them , would as well be fine but not having an option is no good.
Cheers

would be difficult to prove that the IOF has a hand in restriction of imports.. Restriction of imports which has led to the monopoly is done by an altogether different entity although it is also another arm of the government.. Could we sue the government of India whose dealings have led to this state of affairs? Thats another question.

The MRTP Act has largely been replaced by Competition Act 2002. Yes IOF can be taken to task under Competition Act 2002 for abuse of its dominant position. Even the restriction on imports of firearms by license holders by DGFT can be challenged on various grounds. All this matter has already been discussed on this forum.
