Came across a recruitment ad for the TA on the Indian Army site. It may be relevant for members who wish to volunteer, for any reason including (or not) the benefit of easier firearms licence processing.

The T.A. Is these days being used for active duty. Their original charter states that in case of war, they will be used in rear area security, road opening parties and so on and so forth, so that regular battalions are freed up for frontline durties.
However, given the present internal security scenario, the t.a. Units are being deployed in jammu and kashmir regularly.
Gone are the days when you could join the t.a. And play soldier for a few weeks a year and get your rank and bragging rights. These days, you are very much fighting insurgency and braving all the hazards which a normal unit faces. There are t.a. Units for all arms, and you can choose the one you want to go to iirc.
Dhoni, kapildev, bindra are not commisioned in the t.a. They are honorary appointments. Their rank is lt col(hony),etc
Its pure publicity, nothing else.
Its a great institute for those who can take out the time though.
I myself am hoping to join the t.a. one day.

Guys,
I really long to be a part of TA. I am employed in a pvt ltd. firm, but unfortunately, I do not think they will sign on the acceptance on the form to allow me to be off regular duty for a month or more in a year (getting paid is secondary).....I am toying with the idea of cracking this with my HoD.
What do you think, should I do it, I am in dillemma, if they dont accept, then it will be a negative impact on my stability etc....
Please suggest.
