POSTING IRRELEVANT TOPICS...

In last few days I have seen people have posted absolutely any kind of irrelevant topics on this forum. The best example is the one which was posted on a topic, "Powercut". More disgusting was to see that some oversmart members had immediately started to share & discuss their knowledge on windmills, inverters and so on. Thanks to moderator who immly locked topic after I reported the same. Another topic which I saw today was the height of irrelavent topic....... The topic has been posted on Mohd. Rafi's song???
I request
every member to use their senses before posting any topic on this forum. This forum is not a general forum like Yahoo! Answers or "Ibibo Sawaal" etc.
Let's all respect the idea or intention behind startig this forum and post accordingly.

Amitkj,
I agree to an extent with the spirit of your post that we are mostly about firearms and RKBA.But, this place is also a forum for like minded people to come together and share their views and camaraderie. That's the reason we have General Ramblings, Humour section etc. However, if they begin to overshadow or dominate the forum, that is a different scenario. JMHO.
Best-
Vikram

I guess once in a while we should be OK, as we always talk guns guns and more guns and gun grabbers and
politicians. There is life other than always fighting unless specific person shows no courtesy for our discomfort. And being a senior member may be it's hang over from last night

Amitkj,
There is always a side track to the main track and this side track is important. Let's take a practical scenario where you attend a wedding. Here the main track is the guy or girl getting married but do you only talk about them during the function with your friends? No right?.
It's the same analogy here, sometimes I am not able to post for couple of days on IFG because I don't have a firearm related topic in mind but I still visit the forum because I like it. Now imagine there are no sections like general ramblings and humor then I will not be able to post that much.
Remember, user traffic is very important for a forum. The users once signed up should come back again and again. The format of IFG is correct. And it's hard to draw the line or make a rule like only certain number of offtopic threads are allowed.
My 2 cents

The thread titled "Power cuts" was posted in General ramblings which has the description "Posts that don't fit into any other category. If it's anything to do with guns, it probably doesn't belong here! " AFAIK the topic was made in correct section. I do agree that the thread derailed but you can't control the flow of the discussion. Imagine we all talking about power cuts around dinner table and the discussion steers towards windmills, suddenly some one got offended and called the 800 lbs gorilla, the gorilla told us to STFU and warned the one who started the discussion.
Yeah, it's something like that. Anyways no more post from my side on this thread, don't bother dragging this issue longer than the OJ Simpson trial.
Such a nice way to save freedom of speech...
EDIT: I almost forgot, typing a thread title in ALL CAPS considered rude.

I totally agree with Priyan and if the moderator locked the thread then I am surprised. Coz the thread was in the right section and the discussion was normal.
Also amitkj it is not your job to judge other people's threads, leave that task for moderators.

Here's an interesting concept: if anyone has a gripe about a thread or a member, that gripe is addressed in a PM to a moderator, rather than sent out over the public forums?
Perhaps there's quite a bit of wisdom in what Bhargav said: Leaving moderating to the moderators is a pretty good idea.
