Power cuts

Since the start of summer, power cuts are becoming very frequent in my area. We get only 4 hours of power a day.
Also low voltage so nothing usually runs unless a stabilizer is used. How common power cuts in your area?
And do you have the low voltage problem?

friend,
we got regularly irregular power cuts since the start of this summer.but later on we had no problem as the wind mills produced enough power.we had no voltage problem.we also have ups back up.
i think you should think of ups.

A windmill?!!
Can you post a pic?
Never really saw a windmill in India..
Though had an idea abot windmill farms in Gujrat. Never saw one.
In Noida, we have an avg 4hrs of powercut. That too just from 4 days.
April was like 24x7, but its waaayy better than last year.
It has rained few week back, so its still relatively cooler.

Lot of wind mills coming up in india.
A lot of helicopter and light plane crashes take place in wind mill farms, when the stud pilots grow a set of big ones and fly too low to get some fun. Invariably they end up with a blade slicing them into two.

Dear varunik,
I'm from Assam and it's around 40°C today.
Dear dr.jayakumar,
I have a UPS but I use a CRT monitor so I barely get about a minute of backup at full charge, also charging a UPS is impossible when you get power only 4 hours a day. I have a dream of setting up wind farms here but that's far away from becoming into reality.
Well, I'm out one of our cattle calved in the field, I gotta go there to provide attention.
Soon, I'd be able to experiment if cow milk could actually remove rust.

Aloha,
Wind farms do not work except to put money into the pockets of the sellers.
This is here in Hawaii:
http://www.bizjournals.com/pacific/prin ... aises.html
Still, with this staring people in the face, local government and power company want to put up more.
This is in California:

More:

If whomever wants to put up windfarms, get it in writing that they will REMOVE the windmills if the project
does NOT work out. Make them put up a performance BOND in CASH covering the removal costs or else you will
be STUCK with stuff that will COST YOU to remove.
Also, get it in writing that they will MAINTAIN the product for as long as is necessary.
Make them put their money where their mouth is.
I personally have seen the ones on the California/Nevada border. Major eyesore.
Worse yet is that the machines KILL thousands of birds and other animals because the blades are not locked in place. They keep turning and turning.
A better solution may be Photo Voltaic systems.
Again, make the instalers pay to remove if it fails to work as they Promised it would.

In a country of sunshine India, I am surprised no one thinks of solar panels.

I talked to a few solar panel installers, the price I was quoted was 50k rupees. They also said in rainy days it'll cause troubles and since there's a lot of trees around my house, the roof doesn't get direct sunlight most of the times.

Solar panels are very costly.
Plus you need a lot of space.

Yogibear , don't give this idea to Indian politicians , they will
INSTAL , RUN , REPAIR , REMOVE before you even know that there were windmills in your backyard

I am hearing plane crashes into windmills for the first time. In TN windmills produce an average peak power of about 2500 MW during the period from May to Sep/Oct. Windmills are very common inTN particularly in Kanyakumari and Palladam and in the Tuticorin areas. The towers housing the turbines and blades are mostly manufactured in Trichy ( my native place). I will upload some photos of the windmills soon.

Not necessarily solar panels have become cheaper and more efficient. For about 2 lacs you can set up a 2 KW unit of about 16 sq mts. Pl feel free to contact me for your specific needs. Will be glad to help you.
