Remembrance

I just buried my first polo pony today.
He had laminitis and a severe liver infection.
It tears your heart to see a once proud animal in pain just standing up.
Seeing your mount, who once galloped across myriad fields with you chasing dreams and happiness, now being unable to bear his own weight is terrible.
It is easy to go and kill and animal you dont know.
I was buying the salt and 'chuna' for his burial and feeling so very bad.
I felt like an executioner.
Holding him when he was being injected, whispering to him i wanted to tell him all i had inside me, but alas a few seconds are never nearly enough.
And he looks at me and falls down, not being able to comprehend what is happening to him. Confused.
His breath slowing down, my tears falling on his face. His eyes look at me and want love.
I look at him and want forgiveness.
I buried him near the polo fields, so that he may hear the neighs of his buddies, the shouts of men and the thack of the ball being hit.
Stay happy bhanwar, for you have gone onto happier meadows. Play and frolick my boy and know that i loved you as i never loved anything before.
You enriched my life. I hope i kept you happy too.
The tears sometimes dont stop.
Join me my friends, in wishing a noble animal farewell.

Sorry to hear about it. Its never easy to let go of some one with whom you have shared your moments, be it man or animal.
But you relieved him of his misery and pain, you did what he expected you to do, watch out for him and be there when you need him.

Dear Ab,

Very sorry for what you went through. But you did what a friend would and I guess your being there in his last stage mattered to him. He is probably happily galloping away in another world, free of pain.

Regards,

Dev

last year my lab died, reason unknown, even my workers cried as they were found of him. so i can feel the lose somewhat you are going through.

i have learnt one thing in this life, to enjoy animals, to take care of them, play with them etc but not to love them.

AB, very sorry to hear this, I can feel your emotions.

i have learnt one thing in this life, to enjoy animals, to take care of them, play with them etc but not to love them.

I agree with you Naga Sir, but you always fall in love with them no matter how much you try to resist. The reasons are obvious.

Regards.

As Dev says, it was the best you could do for your equine friend. You kept him happy when alive and did not allow him to suffer needlessly. And, that is one of the best eulogies I read.

Best-
Vikram

Hi Arjun,
> I can understand the pain of bereavement you experienced at the sad demise of your first Pony... Bhanwar.
> As I read your post these words came to my mind - which I want to share with you...

" WHERE IN THIS WIDE WORLD
CAN MAN FIND NOBILITY WITHOUT PRIDE,

FRIENDSHIP WITHOUT ENVY
OR BEAUTY WITHOUT VANITY?

HE SERVES WITHOUT SERVILITY
HE FIGHTS WITHOUT ENIMITY,

ALL OUR HISTORY IS HIS INDUSTRY
WE'RE HIS HEIRS, HE OUR INHERITANCE!

"THE HORSE"

> Rest your mind at peace Arjun - He is at the Happy Hunting Grounds galloping against the breeze - his mane fluttering - his hoofs pounding with stacatto beats - to the rhythm of his heartbeats - raising his head to neigh with pride - that probably means "MY BODY IS DEAD BUT MY SPIRIT IS ALIVE"... forever!!!!

Know exactly how you feel. I too had to put down my dobe who was like a son to me on 4/4/2010. Nothing will ever be able to take your pony's place. Just try to recollect all the happy times you shared with him rather than lament his loss. Time will heal you.

Gents,
Thank you for your kind words and commiseration.
While the pain will lessen on its own, one gets solace in reading these lines.

Sorry to hear about the loss. To loose an animal as beautiful and majestic as a horse is always painful.
Would appreciate if you could put up a snap of Bhanwar here .....whenever you get the time to do so.

friend,
first when i read it i thought it was a story, but by then i realized its true.i know how it is to loose your companion.
i too own few(marwari's),i know how they serve us all its life.
laminitis and live abscess is a disease very difficult to treate.
as a horse owner i know your feeling's.
i have no words to console...
take care.
