It's a dream or nightmare . But I wouldn't be on any side of it , not on the stock and certainly not on muzzle side .

The .950 JDJ is the world's largest, and most powerful caliber rifle cartridge. Loaded .950 JDJ cartridges are approximately the length of an empty .50 BMG casing (i.e., 4"), and are based on a 20x102mm case shortened and necked up to accept the .950" bullet. Projectiles are custom-made and most commonly weigh 3,600 grains (230 g) which is 8.2 ounces or over half a pound.

As its name implies, rifles chambered for the cartridge have a bore diameter of 0.950", which would normally classify them as Destructive Devices under the 1968 (1934) National Firearms Act. However, SSK sought and received a "Sporting Use Exception" to de-regulate the rifles, meaning they can be purchased like any other Title I rifle by a person over age 18 with no felonious criminal record.[citation needed] The rifles themselves, of which only a handful have been made, use McMillan stocks and extraordinarily thick Krieger barrels bearing an 18 lb (8.2 kg) muzzle brake. Overall, depending on options, the rifles weigh from 80 to 110 pounds (36 to 50 kg) and are therefore only useful for shooting from a bench rest or heavy bipod. Despite the weight, recoil is significant, and shooters must be sure to choose components (i.e., scopes and bipods) that can handle the abuse. The sheer size and weight of these weapons makes them impractical for hunting use, as they cannot be carried afield. Thus, they are largely "range queens"—rifles that are brought to the range for a fun time, but not usually used for hunting or other "more practical" uses. Additionally, the cost of owning and operating such a firearm is beyond most shooters; the rifles cost ~US$8,000, loaded cartridges are $40 each, and the individual lathe-turned bronze bullets are $10 apiece.

I was young and dumb and was talked into firing a 458 Winchester Magnum with 500 gr Solid Elehant rounds.

Rifle was a Browning Safari Grade FN Mauser, reciol pushed me 3 steps back. Muzzle ended pointing straight up.

Not once, but twice. The second time was to make sure I didn't loose my nerve over the RECOIL.

Presently own a custom made converted 1917 Remington "American" Enfield in 375 H & H.

Probably the softest shooting of all the African hunting magnums.

I had it made in hopes of going to Africa for Cape Buffalo, never made it.

That gun makes my retinas hurt just thinking about it.

Yogi, if you ever felt like posting some pics of your 1917 I would be interested in seeing them, I have been thinking about building that same combination sometime and always like to look at similar versions.

It was made over 30 years ago. 26" barrel. Sweet shooter.

Fun to shoot with 300 gr cast bullets.

Every now and then I find Factory rounds(box or 2) cheap that local gun show.

Save them for the next time the elephant goes Nuts and escapes from the circus.

No problem and there is no hurry around here. Heck, I promised to post up some knife pictures over a month ago and I always seem to forget about it until I am away from home on a trip or otherwise occupied!
