IANS | Dec 16, 2011, 05.13PM IST
NEW DELHI: A 9-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a bullet in his neck during a marriage ceremony in south Delhi, police said.

Shivam, a Class 5 student, was killed while he was watching the wedding procession at Jafarpur Kalan late Thursday.

"Few drunken men had started firing in the ceremony. Two of them went to the stage where the groom and bride were sitting and started firing. They fired around 35 rounds, one of those hit the boy," Deputy Commissioner of Police A.K. Ojha told IANS.

"The victim was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where he was declared brought dead," Ojha said.

Two people have been arrested and identified as relatives of the boy.

Terrible. Just about 1 week ago in Ohio (Middle US) a young Amish girl was driving her buggy home when she was killed by a bullet to the head.
Turns out a man had just cleaned a black powder rifle and reloaded for a shot. Apparently he missed his target and backstop! The bullet traveled just over 1 mile, striking the young girl.
I think we all know - Know your backstop! Know where your bullet will go!

Yeah the four rules of Gun safety.
Why can't the Govt. have the people understand and follow these. Like they do for driving - drive to left, drive in lane and bla bla. Those who want to get and keep their right of driving do abide by them.
But wait, the government doesn't want the citizenry armed, hence it doesn't care squat about the citizenry's skills and training. The consequences help to defame the law abiding gun ownership and ban it altogether eventually.
Or am I being cynical here?

Virendra

Very sad to hear of such news....what a waste - 9 Yr old, 15 Yr old....Sigh :x

If we can have laws for DUI (Driving Under the Influence), we sure can have laws for SUI (Shooting Under the Influence)!

1.5 miles from a black powder rifle - almost a spent ball/bullet?
