Baljit Singh Sethi, advisor of the National Rifle Association of Indian (NRAI), was attacked at his office in south Delhi's Tughlaqabad industrial area by four miscreants on Monday morning. According to the police, the incident took place at around 10.30am at Sethi's office.
A senior member of NRAI, who did not want to be identified, said the assailants were hired by a suspended member of the NRAI who was removed from his post six months ago.

"A departmental probe against the suspended member stated that he had indulged in corruption and was misusing his funds. The member had developed a grudge against Sethi and some other senior NRAI members after his suspension," said the senior NRAI member.

On Monday, Sethi was sitting in his office when four men arrived and wished to meet him personally. One of them fired from a pistol at him, but it jammed and he survived.

The pistol jamming is pure providence  !

Now this story will probably do more harm to the pro gun lobby than all the anti gun people could hope for!

I am glad that he survived. However, the million dollar question is, should the credit for saving his life go to IOF?

The assailant is in police custody. It is for the police to investigate and decide as to who is behind all this. This is what I would want to know

a) On what basis has this unnamed member drawn this conclusion that the assailants were hired by the ,also, unnamed member.

b) I would like to know what funds are at the disposal of an NRAI member that this fellow is talking about?

c) Also,if the member was nursing a grudge against Sethi 'and some other senior NRAI members" why the attack on only Sethi?

d) Was there no forewarning of this happening?

The unnamed member jumping the gun and giving out unsubstantiated rumours as gospel truth,is unwarranted at this stage and would tarnish the image of the suspended member if the allegation proves to be false. An opportunistic attempt to use this incident to settle personal scores perhaps ?

Baljit Sethi is lucky to be alive. The true picture will emerge once the police file a challan in the trial court.
