AGARTALA, November 10 (PTI): Youth Congress leader Anil Dhantori, who came here to oversee Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s programme in Tripura, was Thursday detained by security personnel at the Agartala airport following the recovery of a bullet from his baggage. Later Dhantori, also a member of the Haryana assembly, was released by the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) without being handed over to the Tripura police.

sometimes the cops realise their stupidity of having to follow procedure.. a government officer friend of mine was also detained for having some .25 ammo in his briefcase at Kolkotta airport, while some of the cops ran around to file the report, he was advised by the officer in charge to scram.. He had to return by railways luckily he was travelling light!

what can anyone do with a live catridge without a gun?
is it crime carrying a single catridge accidentally?

this can happen by mistake to license holders also, i think never keep cartilages loosely, as there are chances of one, two bullets being left even if you have taken all of them out while traveling in out of license area.
wadali brothers sufi singers were also caught in problem few monts back.

I have to say, this sort of thing doesn't give me the impression of someone who should be carrying.

When I'm on a trip, I know EXACTLY how many rounds I have with me, whether loaded in magazines (pistol) or speedloaders (revolver). As one who carries, I feel it is my responsibility to be fully aware of what I'm doing with my firearm at all times. Occasionally, we have the news here of some joker (like Barry Switzer, head coach of the Dallas Cowboys football team) who goes to the airport and "forgets" that he had a gun in his suitcase. I even personally know a woman this happened to -- she was the postmaster's wife in the little New Mexico town we lived in.

Sorry, but were I king of the USA, nitwits who pull these "I forgot my gun in my suitcase" tricks would get a lifetime ban from ever owning any kind of firearm, airgun, and maybe even rubber bands and table knives.

This doesn't speak too well of Rahul's aide, either. Can I take this as an indication of how seriously he addresses his firearms practicing and safety? I shudder to think, if he's this sloppy with his responsibilities, what's liable to happen when the chips are down and he's pulling the trigger? What's likely to happen to the bystanders?

I'm sorry to be so harsh, but we, as supporters of personal gun rights, need to be in the vanguard of those exhibiting responsible behavior. What's a normal, non-gun owning citizen to think about this sort of thing? Why would they want to get on an airplane in this day and age with some kook trying to sneak something on, what with the shoe bomber and the underwear bomber? Nope, no tolerance from me on this one. It's 2011, for goodness sake!

having ammo without a licence is a crime. which means under the ARms act the clown can be sent to jail. but being a clown of a ploltickissa kind of chap he was excused. for you and me it would have been jail.

With RIGHTS comes RESPONSIBILTY.

I am no aide of any RAHUL, if fact I don’t know who the Inspector in charge of my local police is station, why should I bother. I do know the name of MLA and MP concerned because I vote.

Now coming back to carrying licences weapon and ammo during, air travel, in last 15 years I have made numerous air travels with my weapon. It was a peaceful and comfortable journey always.

In fact, to my surprise I get very special treatment in airport when I declare that there is a weapon in my bag at the entrance of the airport gate to the CISF personnel and all documents ready to show.

As rightly said by timmy , how can be someone so carless to forget his weapon and ammo.
Is that person's weapon and ammo is like his extra pair of socks, underwear and kerchief.

I mean what are the formalities and/or procedure, required documents etc... for Air travel with weapon in our country?

Your license and in my case journey permit also, as I have all Maharashtra only right now.

Treating a WEAPON AND AMMO, with respect. Not comparing them with other thing in the bag like socks, unwashed undies........................non ironed shirts and all.

and very important attentive and alert, since you must know all the times 'WHAT ARE YOU CARRYING'.
