Isn't this going to be a security problem for the Licensees? Should this information not be only available to Law enforcement officials and dealers at the most?

If someone wanted to steal firearms would it not become easy for the bad guys?
This sort of thing happened in the USA,Florida IIRC where the licensee details were posted on a website by some anti gun people, eventually the details had to be removed by court order or something like that as this was privileged information that could pose a risk to the licensees.

Anand

i do not know what the systems displays, i am of the thought that one can input a licence number and it will come up as valid/not valid as the case maybe without disclosing further info, i guess some one from Punjab licence should give it a go.

Maharashtra is ahead of Punjab. Check out this

http://thanepolice.org/armsamunations.php

There is list of arm licence holders which provides information about licence number, type of weapon and weapon number as well. This is horrible. How can they do this?

Thanks ruger_rugged,
for pointing out Maharastra Police's new " KARNAMA" ( i.e. the most idiotic thing they can do)
Is similar list is available for Mumbai also, if yes I'll just forget DIWALI and run to buy a new safe to keep my weopen.
And dont know how safe will it be in that safe also .

Now if they have exposed the arms licensee in their area ( I would call it they have taken out their SHIRTS since we all generally use shirt to hide the weopen).
They must take away the pant also, how I will explain, Since Name of Person , His residence address, type, make & caliber of weopen is already there. :o
They can make that person's life missrable by adding following details

1) His business interest
2) How much he earns daily / monthly / yearly, both disclosed and undisclosed. Police are best in finding out these things.
3) Where exactly is his office.
4) what is his daily routien. Friends and hang out places
5) where is his bank and how much cash he carries everyday
6) In which school his kids are studying where they go for classes who are kids friends where they live etc.
7) How much gold licensees wife ,mother and sister have and whether it is at home or in locker . In case of locker bank name and time of its operation
.

I have full faith if they decide , they can do any thing .
But with this much , their long lasting pain of issuing Arms License will definety ease.
No one will dare to ask for any license.

Regards.

To protect our rights we are left with only one option but to "Take shelter with Hon. Court pleading for a stay on such display of personal information"
@ Gurus - What do you think on this?

Please refer to the link provide by ruger_rugged.
The arms licence holders information is publiced on the same page
with
1) Most Wanted
2) Externees Criminals
3) Absconders Criminals

But here is the twist in the story, the page also shows following

4) Missing Persons
5) Unidentified Dead Bodies.

So the police thinks an arms licence holder belongs to any of one category in serial No. 1to 3. :o
And to make them among the serial No. 4 & 5.
they have publiced their details. ROTFL ROTFL ROTFL ROTFL

Regards.

PS. Spellings for seriel no. 1to 5 taken from the link it self.
I think they added 's' every where to make the criminal more " DETESTABLE"

Arms Licence Holders list from Bikaner Rajasthan

http://bikaner.nic.in/rq1.asp

MHA letter dated 6-4-11 did instruct all LA's to maintain data base of licence holders and share them with MHA but no where they instructed LA's to make such data PUBLIC.

The million dollar question is "Who has instructed LA's to make such confidential data PUBLIC on INTERNET? "

Babus have gone Insane. This is absolute invasion of privacy.

And this disease is spreading. LA Bikaner and now Thane has followed the footsteps. If not stopped this will soon turn out to be an epidemic.....

Here in US even a Doctor will not give any personal detail of patient to any body forget about others but in India people can easily sneak a peek into your lives.
It is a proven fact that more people get killed in road accidents than by guns. But it is an irony that there is no national or state level data base of Drivers Licence in India. I have heard that it is easy to get a fake drivers licence for Rupees 100 which looks exactly similar to original. This trade is flourishing and government has turned a blind eye to it. How can a authority in Tamil Nadu check authenticity of drivers licence issued in UP in absence of data base ? To my knowledge and belief Drivers Licence data base should be at a higher priority than arms licence.

Senioners can help, but

' Who Is Going To Bell The Cat'
I think the owner of the cat should, So my friends the arms issued on license is not a property of the issuing authority.
" IT IS LICENSEES PROPERTY " that is why it goes as a heirloom. Simple logic.
Those offended by this kind of publication on net, must raise their voice.
and if in mumbai any such kind of revealation on net is available I'll be the first to "BELL MY CAT".
It is a fact, people here think they are provided with some kind of donation ( DAAN) to have arms on license. And what wrong in it now the donation is listed on the net.
Just keep arms act and costitution of India as side, the first law applicable is "INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ACT" no one can post others personel information on net with out his permission.

Regards.

rajveer - You bet.. We will have to bell the cat. No body from another planet will come and bell the cat for us. As far as Maharashtra goes and including Mumbai we the ifgians from Maharashtra can hire a good lawer and file a writ in Hon. HC Mumbai pleading to stop this display of personal information immediately. Later in due course of hearings let the court decide what is right or wrong. I firmly believe if we take up the matter logically we can stop this disease before it turns out to be epidemic. Seniors your opinion on this?

surly there must be a law which prevents private details from being displayed in public. one option is for one or more ifgns to go through the list and dig out THE details of MPs MLAs etc and inform the said people and let them take it up. this will be the fastest route. on the other hand if there are no MPs etc on the listed and you know that, they have arms, then do an RTI and get the details, then inform the authority that they have missed out so and so person without saying they are MPs etc. if they amend the list then take it to the MPs and let them take care of the whole thing. lol
