navratri last day and/or dashmi.
In south india esp karnataka dashmi is called 'ayudh pooja'.
In nepal 'dasai'.
Another interesting fact is that an indian festival that has a fixed date in christan calendar. (17 sept).
The only one i was aware was of makar sankranti on 14 jan. but thats because its based on the solar system of calculation rather than the lunar.
Vishwa was the divine architect. hence the day is primarily for tradesman worshipping tools.

Guns in the pics are the INSAS, AK variant, the SLR and the BMG. Probably a snap of a para military setup.

Worship of weapons, Shastra Puja, is generally performed on Dasserha especially in North India.
But there is more than just Chandan and Mouli in the worship of weapons.
Scriptures require that the weapon be clean and in working order. All repairs and sharpening to be done prior to the Puja.
A good idea especially after a long humid monsoon season and when people leave their weapons in their cases forgotten for years to come.

You are quite right. At the time of Vijaydashmi Shashtra Pujan, none of the articles should be 'khandit', ie. broken or non working. Moreover, even war booty, should they be weapons, 'chhinh' and 'naggaras' (standards and kettle drums of war) are worshiped too. In such a case any offering made to them should be that which would have been made by the original owners. For example, if the weapons be Islamic then 'lobaan' and flowers are offered but not the kumkum, coconut or 'aarti' traditionally offered in Hindu rituals.

+1 katanaji.
The nishaan is also worshipped.
In the shoots, i always get asked why is there a coloured thread on my guns. They try to come up with several explanations.
for e.g. padding for finger. matching with 'bracelet' (moli on my wrist).
heres a pic from ast year

Many people do not realise the importance of the red thread in Hindu rituals. The 'lachha', also known as 'chhadi' in some areas, symbolises 'vastra' or clothing. It signifies that one will clothe or look after a guest, a possession or relative, clansman etc. if it is tied to him and so on. Unfortunately it has become more of a fashion statement these days.
The correct sequence of the Dushhera Pujan starts at Godhuli (literally 'time when the cows return home') or Sandhya Kaal, with Ashwa Pujan or worship of the horse or steed, followed by Vahan Pujan wherein the Raths (chariots), now motor cars followed by Shastra Pujan. Thereafter Sami Pujan is carried out. Sami is the Khejri tree, so sacred to Rajputs. The story goes that when the Pandavs hid their weapons in Khejri trees all over the country to be retrieved at the time of their need. Therefore the tree is likened to an armoury which too is to be respected.
The final obeisance is the Gupt Shastra Pujan, literally 'secret weapon worship'. This is to be done at Raatri Kaal or midnight or thereabouts of weapons that are to be kept in secret from even your own family members. As is obvious it is to be performed alone and in secrecy.
Here is a picture of my own Dushhera Pujan from last year.

Nice to see the guns but did anyone spray "shanti pani" on them and gave them "bindis"? It's like feeding milk to snakes.
