Recoveries of Arms & Ammunition in West Medinipur District After May 13, 2011
Since May 14, Police in West Medinipur have conducted about 100 raids and recovered 1109 fire-arms and 11,088 rounds of ammunition of different varieties from various Police Station areas in the District, mainly in Goaltore, Garbeta, Anandpur, Keshpur, Pingla, Salboni and Kotwali.

Over 140 persons have been arrested. Some of these arms caches were at local level CPM offices and house of a CPM supporter, particularly in Garbeta PS. However, the bulk of arms and ammunition was recovered from proximity of CPM offices and have been shown ‘unclaimed’. Of these about 246 are rifles of various calibers and the balance are muskets and country-made weapons. On May 22, 2011, an AK-56 and an INSAS rifle were among the recoveries from Kotwali PS area. The INSAS was one of the weapons looted from the Silda camp of Eastern Frontier Rifles in February 2011.

All goes to show the hectic activity going on in the illegal arms trade! People who care a damn for the law are busy arming themselves to the teeth, whereas law abiding citizens are deprived of the right to arm themselves.

Or it goes to show, what it means to be voted / booted out after 34 years in power!!!

Nothing surprising, MHA wants to create a "news" out of this. Every ruling party arms its supporters and tries to disarm the supporters of opposition party by implicating under arms act. That is why I say gun control/ arms act is nothing but a political tool where bureaucrats, judges and ruling parties can implicate their opponents.

But what also concerns me, out of these 1109 there is a considerable number of .315 IOF recovered along with .315 KF Ammo. Also lot of 12ga shell found mostly Shaktiman. The point is civilian weapons somehow landing to these antisocials which is definately not a good sign for RKBA drive and awareness. I am not sure how many of these are licensed or dont have data supporting these recovered arms were licensed , but definately they didnot looted it from IOF factory or from any gun dealers. So if there are any .315 IOF rifles , there is a high chance that it looted/came from some licnese holder.

It is not just a question that all this is found only because a particular political party was in power for 34 years, it is something that every political party in power does. Even the present parties in power are not much different in these matters.
