Hi,

I am doing a story for FHM Magazine on guns and firearms (haven't figured out the angle yet :D). There are a few questions which I need help with:

1. Best guns for self defence for a beginner
2. Guns under Rs 10000
3. Necessary Gun accessories - clean and maintenance
3. How is a gun tuned

Will be very grateful for all the help from the real experts.

Here is an angle for you; why don't you try writing about how laws are being subverted by our government officials (MHA) by passing unconstitutional order that makes it nearly impossible for a common law abiding citizen to get a license for a firearm and how easy it is for a common criminal to source a firearm and also how the IOF is manufacturing substandard arms and selling them at ridiculously high rates if you browse through the forums here you will find instances where IOF products have had catastrophic malfunctions....

1. Best guns for self defence for a beginner
There is nothing as "best" gun. The best gun is the one that you know best how to use it i.e. you have practiced shooting with it a lot and know it like the back of your hand. There is no point in possessing a .357 magnum revolver if you can't hit your target. On the other hand if you are proficient in using the gun, a well placed shot even from a .22 revolver/pistol will produce results.
2. Guns under Rs 10000
No legal guns are available for under Rs 10,000. For prices of legal handguns and rifles you can visit the website of Indian Ordnance Factory. Illegal guns for criminals are said to be available starting from Rs 200 onwards.
3. Necessary Gun accessories - clean and maintenance
Please search the forum. Or visit any arms dealer.
3. How is a gun tuned
I am assuming you are asking how a gun is bore sighted and zeroed. For this please refer http://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopic ... 98&start=0 and http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 42&start=0 If you are referring to tuning a airgun you may refer http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=4199
If you are also looking for material with Constitutional angle(correctly mentioned by spin_drift)about Right to Keep and Bear Arms and unconstitutional policy/order of MHA you may refer http://www.lawyersclubindia.com/forum/R ... -36011.asp Please note that as of today acquisition, possession, carrying, manufacture, sale, transfer, transportation etc. of arms and ammunition is regulated by Arms Act 1959. For possessing a firearm one needs to acquire an arms license(which is practically very difficult to obtain due to gradual and clever subversion by bureaucracy) else he may land in jail.

Dear Rahul,

I presume you represent FHM india.
Well first of all congratulations that despite FHM choosing a writer who has no knowledge oabout guns to write about them, you have actually taken pains to search the internet and become a member to ask questions. So well done.

Secondly, going by the FHM reputation, is your 'angle' going to be 'boys toys' / 0r 'guns as bird pullers' etc as im not sure if FHM expects a social/ political gun propaganda sort of an article (in the eyes of leftists etc)

Nothing personal against you but journalists have a reputation. Once bitten twice shy. A lot of tricksters have used this forum before.

how did you arrive at a figure of rs 10000?

The sort of audience or readers FHM targets can afford much more than 10000 on 'self defence'.

I think all members should refrain from giving too much info till we know what the 'angle' is going to be.

i hope mods too pay attention to this.

Shooter, you have hit the nail on the head.

Rahul, assuming you are who you say you are, we have been bitten more than once by journos stealing our work/references/links, passing them off as their own, and twisting our words to mean otherwise.

As goodboy mentor and shooter said, you enquiries seem pretty weird. What is it you really want?
