Nice looking dogs,HVJ. Just curious, why were the tails of the dogs docked? Is it a breed standard? Thanks.

Awesome looking dogs. A small observation hvj1. Hope you don't mind me telling you. The cement surface is not very good for them. They can lead to a few problems. Kennel patches being one of them. You might want to talk to their breeder and get some suggestions.

Hi Vikram,Vikram wrote:Nice looking dogs,HVJ. Just curious, why were the tails of the dogs docked? Is it a breed standard? Thanks.
Yes it was the breed standard, however, docking, internationally now is banned. Unfortunately, my breeder insisted on docking. Once he witnessed the procedure himself, he was overcome with remorse and in future 'no more docking'. Unfortunately I have ended up with my Rambo being docked.
Now coming to the point of 'breed standard', the boerboels have very unbecoming tails, broad at the base and tapering to to point, which they tend to raise like an ariel. The early breeders found this unbecoming and hence...
I am personally against docking, unbecoming or not, the tail is there for a purpose, namely balance and to protect the testicles.

You are correct Prabath, however I am facing a problem, Rambo, when left out of the garage, eats stones and wet earth. This poses a real threat in the form of gastro. We have put him on a diet supplement of calcium and vitamins, the breeder has said that Rambo will overcome this habit in a week or so. As and when that happens, he will be turned loose. Now Zorro perforce is also cooped up with him, since Rambo howls if Zorro is not close by.Prabhath wrote:Awesome looking dogs. A small observation hvj1. Hope you don't mind me telling you. No they are not related at all, the predominant strain is the Mastiff.

Very nice looking dog but I feel sad when I see docked tails. They are animal guys, they have their own right too.
When I'll get to shoot a gun?

Hello Yaj
Thanks for the site and after readingit, I stand corrected, the Boerboels DO have a distinct gene pool background common to the Ridgebacks.
Vrohan and Veejosh,
Thanks
Priyan
I could not agree with you more.
Best Regards to all.

Ah!I was wondering about the Boerboels since your last post. Glad to know that they are finally in their new home.
Looking at the history of the breed I am sure that very soon the little fella will not need anyone to protect him and will be able to fend for himself.
