SHOOTING IN PHUKET!!!

After a long time me and my wife decided to take a holiday and travel to Malaysia and Thailand. Few days before we left, i happened to do a google search for "Shooting Range Phuket" I was surprised to find that there were three shooting ranges within driving distance of the hotel we were staying!!!

so on the second day of being in Phuket and my hands itching to do some diskaon diskaon.. I took a tuk tuk to the place.

Me before entering the place.

A quick round of instructions.

I chose the 0.22 and a 9x19 mm as my tools for the day.

First was the Smith & Wesson 10 shot 0.22 single action revolver. By the way its pronounced "Smee en Wessooon" in Thailand.

The first few shots were quite surprising. Having shot a 0.22 rifle before, i expected no, or little, recoil. but I realised that my first shot was way too low. second was on the target, but far far away from the bulls eye.
Then my instructor Mr. Anik gave me a few tips on pistol shooting. asked me to aim high. that improved my score a little. i managed one bullseye out of the 10 shots I fired.

Then came "the dream of every NPB license holder" I WAS HOLDING A CZ 75 SP -01 9x19(Or the Sleazee 75, as they call it there)..... they also had the 45 cal but then, two thing made me decide on a simple 9mm over the 45.

1. cost of ammo was way higher
2. i dint want to score a bulls eye on the next persons target.

What can you do with a 45 that you can't do with a 9mm??

coming back to the 9mm.

5 bullets were loaded by Mr. Anik and he help me change my grip(My left hand thumb was in the way of the blow back path - not a problem in the revolver which I had just shot. As a matter of fact, my left hand thumb was positioned there to help recock the single action revolver).

First shot - bottom left corner

a quick "calibration" then I got 4 shots in the south east quadrant of the target.

After a quick reload. ( they load only 5 bullets at a time) i requested the instruction to let me go crazy.. I told him F see you K the target or the score. let me have some fun. and in just 3.0005557466 seconds i fired the remaining 5 shots. The whole shootign range was looking at me. wondering if the range had auto weapons too. :stupid:

My scores speak for themselves.

My instructor "Mr. Anik" quite a Showman. Made me pose with the guns. Made me wear my rayban for the photoshoot!! 8)

I liked the huge safety warnings:

Wow! Great experience I bet.Must have made the holiday that much sweeter. 2 years ago when I had visited Koh Samui, they too had a shooting range.I had shot a 9mm and a pump action shotgun there.
Its almost like a surreal experience, because here in India for us regular folk to get a chance to shoot these weapons is almost like non existant and over there, just walk in , pay a few 100 baht(about 1.4rs to the baht) and then fire away. Too easy. The sound the 9mm makes is just ridiculous. My ears where ringing through the protective ear muffs even. They even had a AK-47, but it was non functional!!

Good pics diskaon

Awesome Diskaon! It looks like you had a great time.
Thanks for posting the story and those photos.
Both weapons that you chose are examples of what a good handgun should be.
I'm thrilled that you had a great shooting experience. Hopefully, sometime in the future you will realize the dream of owning and being able to shoot something similar.
So what did you think of the SP-01? Nice handgun, Na?

Glad you had fun! :D Had a chance to do that last December myself, as you said cost of ammo is very high, but as a you can see there is no range fees as such, so the ammo cost probably takes care of everything!

Anand

The pics surely do justice to your experience. Was the trip only once??

I am sure, next, all such destinations with a public firing range would be offering firearm vacation offers for the gun starved Indians. :)

Great to see you enjoyed your outing.

Regards

:D I was staying in Karon Beach. The range was in Chalong bay, which was a 15 mn drive from the hotel.
this was a holiday after a long time, the shooting was like icing on the cake. Memorable.. worth making anual trips ( :) On the way back i made already planing my next trip. ideally it should be a group trip.. the plan is to stay in the cheapest hotel (Karon and Patong Beach are relatively expensive to stay) and save all the money for the shooting :D :D :D :D :D They have 0.22 revolvers, 9 mm pistol, .38 rev, 45 cal pistols, clay shooting, ATV riding, go Karting, snake show, monkey school, etc... One could go crazy there just looking at so many guns at one place.

one more pic ....

When we get tired of one range, you have two more within an hours drive!!! how cool is that.

The CZ was great to hold. I have big hands and this gun felt nice. a sub-compact would never feel the same!!! for some reason the gun was recoiling in the 5 O clock direction. I am so used to seeing empty cartridges flying out (in the movies). But missed that part, because by the time I was looking away from the target the cartridge was already on the floor (I should have got videos taken instead of photos)

@Zoo - The rate are higher now. 0.22 for 680 THB, 9mm and 0.38 for 880 THB, 45 cal and shotguns for 1080 THB... Also, THB is now Rs. 1.52/- @ Anand - Membership at KSRA is 5K + police verification, and the ammo is relatively cheaper..

@ Xl - target - I have a soft corner for revolvers. but i can say without doubt that this one is the best pistol that I have handled (being the only pistol that I have handled).

@nagarifle - My itinerary are already in place, we have to just plan the dates..

regds,
Diskaon
