Vladimir Putin, is probably the most unlikely person that comes to mind when we talk about guns. But it seems he really loves them. Much to the chagrin of people who like to portray him otherwise.
Read the story here. The images are from this website too:

And another parting shot.

I think you got it wrong there. He was always the aggressive kind, his political assistants wanted to portray him otherwise. Don't forget he was ex-KGB and would have probably been well versed in the usage of the tools of the trade.

BTW, Mr.Putin is a fitness freak, expert at Martial Art and a very avid hunter who it's believed is an excellent shot.

m24 is exactly right!
I would expect that Mr. Putin is quite well versed in the subject of firearms, given his KGB background.
In addition, he likes to be photographed by the media doing "manly things," like riding horses and engaging in outside activities without a shirt on. I would guess that firearms are also in that vein, and present him in a way he wants to be viewed by the public.

I'd rather say adventerous
. I knew of his KGB roots but wasn't aware that he still liked to take a jig whenever possible. Kudos to him though, wouldn't dream of something similar in our country, or even in Gun Haven USA.
What say Timmy ?

Hi Guys,

Well <ahem>, "adventurous" is a word that has had a number of different meanings over the years, so given Mr. Putin and his activities, perhaps decorum requires me to make no comment!

LOL Timmy!
Finger on the trigger while handling the gun (second to last photo). Augh!
Unusual use of the earmuffs in the last photo, to say the least.

Okay, can anyone tell me what the pistol in the second picture is? It looks like a cross between a MAC-10 and a Bizon, with either a short folding stock or a strange looking foregrip.

It looks like it is the PP2000
http://world.guns.ru/smg/smg61-e.htm
The PP-2000 is a conventional blowback operated submachine gun, and it is fired from closed bolt for enhanced accuracy.
Also, it is designed to fire any standard 9x19mm "ball" (FMJ) ammunition, as well as +P+ class 7N31 armor piercing ammunition of Russian origin. When loaded with 7N31 ammo, PP-2000 offers enhanced penetration against body armor, while maintaining stopping power against "soft targets", which is believed to be superior to foreign small-caliber rivals, like 5.7mm FN P90 or 4.6mm H&K MP-7.
