Re: Indian & Foreign Special Forces Pics
Hi Naga, I'm afraid not. Have read a lot of non fiction SF Literature but never came across a Squadron 217. Have read about the SAS and SBS as TIER 1 UKSF and ofcourse the Para's and the Royal Marine Commando's....Please do post some info if you have on the 217.nagarifle wrote:some good pics there.
did you ever came across british unit 217? all so known as squadron 217, over the years they had few name changes, i think they started in Burma.

Thanks SDda... YEs fascinating pics. Were on my hard drive for quite a while so cannot paste the original source, mostly were from militaryphotos. True about the Chineseessdee1972 wrote:Moin, great pics.... of great men (and women).
By the way, did you notice the Soviet WW2 PPSH with the Vietnamese in the training pic (the US SF guy sneaking up behind a Viet in traditional dress with rice harvesting hat)? And the equally elderly grease guns with the South Vietnamese in the lower pic?
As for the Chinese SF, you can rest assured they would never let their best be captured on camera for the whole World Wide Web to ogle at! These might just be the Chinese version of Mumbai Traffic Havaldars!! (we didn't get to discussing the Mumbai-Shanghai conundrum now, did we?)
Grewal saab, you're right! I remember the "silent" choppers shown in the movie Zero Dark Thirty. Force multipliers is what we lack, thanks to lack of political will & foresight!

Re: Indian & Foreign Special Forces Pics
not much to be found on unit 217 heck it does not exit on the net. it started during the last war, since then changed names etc however in the certain circle it is still known as unit 217. from what i can gather its renamed for some strange reasons. co-founder of SAS played a part in setting it up, since the 40s they only have [guessing only] around 140 men.
