......and the rare Indian soldier was always either a turbaned Sikh/Rajput or a Gurkha. The words 'brother'(when talking amongst themselves) and 'sahib'(when referring to any British officer of whatever rank) were always included in what he/they said.

Yes......that`s right - and whenever there were Indian soldiers involved there was also a `Pukka Sahib` - that was the really nice English officer.......who usually ended-up dieing heroically !

...and the bossy 'Sahib' who mistreated his troops was always a coward.

Yes, that`s right...........Bossy/mouthy types were always cowards.
I haven`t looked at a Commando comic for the best part of forty years but, thinking back on them, they were extraordinarily racist, zenophobic and loaded with extreme racial stereotypes........although not as bad as the Capt. W.E.Johns `Biggles` stories which added anti-semiticism to the list. Different times, different attitudes I suppose.

Wow this has gone OT into a Commando Comic discussion . As a kid I would always look forward to the one edition a week that my father used to get me.I used to spend hours peering over a Thunderbolt's or a Luger Glisenti's details on the back of the fore and aft covers. Back then, they were my only source of information into the world of firearms and fighting machines. Junkers 52, F4U Corsairs, Stuka's, Lancasters those were the days :D

Not having an "Umlaut" on the keyboard, I am going with "ue".  "Schuetze" n. simply means "shooter", "Schuetzen" is plural.  The verb "schuetzen" means to protect, "Schutz" (no Umlaut) means "protection".  All coming from the same root "sh..t" also present in English and originally meaning to "separate from".  And there you are; without military history essay from Wiki.Cheers.

Hey Sid,

Does the 30 in your handle imply 30 Kgs by any chance ?
A beer on me, if you tag along on Friday.

Cheers

Hey mate the 30 refers to my date of birth considering too many Siddharth Kapurs with all of them taking up the decent usernames i had to settle in for this one :(

a beer on you if i tag along on with you on friday! Hmmm.

I look at it this way. if i bunk office on friday and that too a month before i go on a 10 day leave - I GET FIRED!
i get fired i dont save up money. i dont save up money i dont get to buy a good - new - beautiful air-rifle. i dont get a new air-rifle sometime soon. I'LL REQUIRE MORE THAN A FEW BOTTLES OF BEER :(

Shucks bro, I was always under the impression that it denoted a weight class
As for the beer session, lets sit around on Saturday over a few chilled ones and talk a few things through(scope/mounts/dovetail/rifle et all).
