Thanks. I see it now. Unless I am mistaken you have the venerable Parker 51. It is a very highly regarded FP, especially in the U.S. and there are plenty of places where it could be restored.

Join up on The Fountainpen Network and ask for suggestions.

P.S.: If it is a '51, you will find http://www.parker51.com/versions.html to be of interest to you.

Nice link Rusty. It is indeed a "Single jewel Parker 51" As I see from the link.
On closer inspection, it has Parker "51" 6. written on the barrel, but almost faded from years of usage. i see that this model was discontinued in 1948?

The barrel is jammed and doesn't open because of years of neglect and dried ink. Whats the safest way to open it, other than putting it in a vice. Warm water?

Yash,

Your best is to join the forum I had mentioned and pose your questions there.

I agree with Rusty, MB's are great to look at and have prestige value. However, I find them difficult to write with since they are heavy and fat. More like pens that you would use to sign an agreement, and break the nib. Pelikans, Sheaffers are more like writing pens.

One thing that sort of killed the fountain pen popularity, I thought, were the roller tip ones which use a liquid ink but no regular fountain pen nib. Of course, it fees somewhat different when you write.

Interesting to note that many of IFG folk are fountain pen people too. :)

Hi Fulcrum,

I suppose this is subjective but I love writing with my 149. A Pelikan 800 or 1000, can be heavier and even bulkier than the MB149. However, I prefer big and heavy-ish fountain pens.

Incidentally, are you a military aviation junkie? Asking because of your choice of username.

Welcome to the forum.

hi Mack The Knife
umm...you are right actually. I should have qualified what I wrote by saying that the Pelikans that I own, and the MB that I own :-)

I am an aviation junkie for sure, not necessarily military. But, yes my nick is exactly from there. Good to find one more common interest in IFG. I know of at least one more of us (lazybones) who is an aviation junkie.

I belong to an aviation family; used to, and still dream aircraft (literally as well).

It's made in chicago sometime in the 1890 with a gold nib.
