Re: i've got an idea
Very novel idea but isn't it more practical & less expensive to make a simple Tennis Ball Thrower powered by spring / air / rubber ( Catapult Technic )?Sid_kapur30";p="46568 wrote:Wonder how many of you have been facinated by those remote controlled planes.
But i am. And seemingly in my case everything has to end up with airguns... so here it goes.
How about i get an RC plane, tie a string to it and a table tennis ball and wallah we're there shooting flying targets (my idea of cheap TRAP shooting - cant help it, my friends/uncles didn't take me shooting to the trap range when it was open). The only precaution is we'll have to make sure the plane is a distance away from the shooter and at an angle greater than 60 degrees - considering the length of the string is more than 40cms.
The probability of it is quite less as these model RC planes aint capable of taking the load of even a table tennis ball + these add ons might make it difficult to handle..
Went to a toy shop today to get my hands on one, but thanks to my luck it was out of stock the only one they had was for 3 grand, for an experiment i wasn't willing to spend this much. Will get the one for 1000INR on Wednesday till then i'd say the Delhi Darlings better start zeroing in their Air rifles and dont forget to clean the barrel - no complaining later on....
Cheers
Siddharth
I think such an instrument can be made for 500 to 1000 INR. Will never come into contact of any projectile so not to worry about mid-air destruction by missed projectile. Can be operated by shooter himself from any distance so you don't have to carry along a team of pilots & mechanics for RC planes or Trucks while shooting. No need to recharge or replace expensive Ni-Cad battery packs. Can be operated in strongest winds also. Throwing power & throwing angel can be adjusted as per requirement. Not to worry about deplated battery. These are all benefits I can see from this sinple instrument which can be made by anybody with minimum technical knowledge.
What do you all think about this simple innovation.

Re: i've got an idea
I agree that the continuation of the idea, being so much more simplified, makes more sense. Matter of fact, I have seen a TT Ball gun with my nephew, bought for about 600 INR. If this gun can be hooked to a 'leg-aided' triggering method, it should more than serve the purpose.
And the brighter part is that you can have another gun for your collection.

Are we still talking about shooting at these things with an air-rifle?
Seems to me a ball shot out of one of these contraptions would be best despatched using a shotty... a rough & ready poor man's trap shooting range...
Cheers!

Re: i've got an idea
Actually, we could use the ping-pong gun from a distance ... only thing is that we will have to make a mechanism to pull the trigger using the shooter's foot. (with a long cord, or whatever)
That way, the shooter can stand at a 'safe' distance, and trigger theping pong ball (with the ping pong ball gun aimed at a naturally safe angle), and take a shot with his DBBL.
I guess the main discussion, or the point being tried to achieve in this topic, is a cheap and easy to use contraption for shotgun practice. So, it should be assumed that shooters discussing this, know the required safety norms (red flag, eye glases, safe place, good distance, etc)... And the PP gun need not necessarily be in a target-pit. It could very well be on ground, since there is no human firing it.

Anand,
I can name you names of members on this forum, our range and at national level comps who have been extremely careless when it comes to safe gun handling. So I assume the worst if the safety aspects are not clearly mentioned on each and every such post and I will not hesitate to stomp on such posts irrespective of anyone's feelings getting trampled upon. This is an obligation that all of us owe to our sport.

Re: i've got an idea
"Please be VERY careful of where your shot will land if it misses is all I'll say."
"Just make sure that if the pellet misses, it embeds itself into soft ground. In addition, a wall acting as a backstop would be even better."
"Obviously the walls and ceiling are to be padded to prevent rebounds and ricochets."
"The place for the shooting is to be a farm with not much around for quite some distance,..."
Firstly, there is no dedicated discussion that this HAS to be a shotgun with careless shooters at the behind (or front ..)
Next, there has been some quips on safety in this chain (as quoted above).
Also, I guess we dont have to repeat the safety norms in all posts, by everyone, and at all times... do we?

i totally agree in this front on safety the most important thing ever, with Mack The Knife, when we were undergoing the safety course in the MRI premises we were handed some theories and were asked to read on our own ,but the lecture that was done later metioned more than 2-300 times in a matter of 60 mins the word safety, and we were formally asked to bear with the lecturer since he repeated the same thing, and after referring to the numerous examples on carelessness by ace shooters and pros ,later the last sentence was safety cannot be taught and thus the only reason of repeating the same aspects was 'safety needs to be drilled in the mind',
